But the one your thinking of, is the Great Bird himself, Gene Roddenberry in Charlie X. His voice is the one calling up to the bridge, telling Kirk that he put meatloaf in the ovens, and that now they have turkey in them.
Yes, that's exactly the one I was thinking of-- "There's real turkeys in there!" (or something to that effect).

Yes, you're both right!

Okay, back to you Rick or Scott for the next questions.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

How many shuttle craft are aboard the Enterprise. Oh, and what episode did they tell you that!

Hmmm. I will say two (Columbus and Galileo). I'm guessing it was in The Galileo Seven, as the second shuttle craft was launched and then returned (and both are named in the episode, I believe). I think the Copernicus was in TAS, although I almost thought it showed up in an episode of TOS. I will stick with my original answer--two.

Nope, but good guess.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

This is a really good question!

You are asking regarding NCC-1701?, not A, B, blah, blah, you know the line!

I'm working on this....

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

There's also a Galileo II. So, I'll say 3 shuttlecraft aboard the Enterprise.

Yep, its a TOS question.

Better, but nope. It replaced the Galileo after it burned up.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Here's my last guess...8 shuttlecraft.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

7 I believe and the only episode that seems likely to mention as part of a plot point is The Galileo 7.

Lou,

That's a great guess. Does this include the Columbus? I've loved for years how the title of the episode The Galileo Seven might refer to the number of the shuttlecraft, or it might refer to the number of people on board in that particular episode.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Well, i guess i will have to tell you. Its 4. Remember in The Doomsday Machine, a crewman calls back to Kirk, and says all 4 of the shuttlecraft are here sir. The Constellation is the same class as Enterprise. Thats the only time i can remember anyone talking about how many shuttlecraft would be on a ship.

Rick,

Good call! You get to go again, or give the next question to someone else that came close, whatever you wish.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Darn! I was approaching it from the thinking of which episodes had shuttles in them. I totally forgot that dialogue when he says there's 4 shuttles still on board. Good one!

The shuttlecrafts were never mentioned by name, like the one Decker stole and flew into the Planet Killer. It's implide that the shuttle in Metamorphosis is the Galileo 2. As was the one in The Way to Eden.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

According to The Making of Star Trek none of us are correct.

Pg. 191 - second paragraph - "Huge hangar doors, 60 feet wide and 30 feet high, provide egress and entrance for the six shuttlecraft."

Is it possible that they may be refering to a maximum capacity and not how many the ship is required to have? Think about it, if they have all the hanger bay filled to capacity with all six capable shuttle craft were would visitors ships shuttles dock and unload? In which case it would make sense to have four, leaving the two remaining areas for just such an instance.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Okay, here we go into geekdom. I believe the turntable in the hanger bay was an elevator and there's room below that deck for shuttles. And I just checked the Making of Star Trek and there's some elevation drawings indicating the turntable is an elevator. I'm too into this stuff!

You're not into it because you're a geek. It's because the Star Trek universe is that damn awesome. Almost everyone at least likes it. Whether they admit it or not is another thing entirely. There are a good many closet Star Trek fans out there.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Troy, have you ever tried to stump us? Give it a shot.

Thats very interesting in the making of TOS. I remember the blue prints also show the elevation. I guess they could always store a few shuttlecraft in the landing bay as well. But, yea, i always knew they were kept below. The few lines from Doomsday Machine are the only time i remember a number given.

Nelson,

Just one point. I am assuming you mean all of them were not mentioned by name, yes? Because the Galileo and Columbus were mentioned by name (without regard to specific number, I believe) in TOS. I'll try to find that dialogue over the next day or so.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Scott-

Yes, I don't recall that the shuttle's name in Metamorphosis was mentioned or seen, same with the shuttle that Decker stole, or the one in The Way to Eden.

I do know you could see the name on the shuttle in that one. It was Galileo II.

Nelson,

Yes, you're right regarding those episodes. I thought you meant that they were never mentioned in the series. Here is what was said in The Galileo Seven. Both 'Galileo' and 'Columbus' are mentioned by name (but neither by number).

****************

On boardis Galactic High Commissioner Ferris,
overseeing the deliver of the medicines to Makus 3.
Captain to shuttlecraft Galileo--
Stand by, Mr. Spock.
I remind you, Captain,
I'm entirely opposed to this delay.
Your mission is to get those emergency medical supplies
to Makus 3 in time for their transfer
to the New Paris colonies.
No problem, Commissioner.

[and later]

This is the captain speaking.
Flight deck, prepare Columbus for immediate exit...
for a search of the planet surface.
Correlate coordinates with Mr. Sulu.
Thank you.
Anything, Uhura?
All wave lengths dominated by ionization effects, sir.
Transmission is blocked, reception impossible.
Well, Captain?
We have until 2823.8 to continue the search, Commissioner.
You don't really think you'll have any luck, do you?
Look, these people are my friends and my shipmates.
I intend to continue the search for them
until the last possible moment.
Very well, Captain.
But not one second beyond that moment.
Is that clear?
If it isn't,
Look at book 1 9, section 433, paragraph 1 2.
I'm familiar with the regulations, Commissioner.
I know all about your authority.
Launch shuttlecraft Columbus.

Star Trek Sickbay - TOS: Episody - 14 - The Galileo Seven - Transcript

I can't think of any others, however.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Yeah Scott, I don't think we ever hear another Shuttlecraft named in TOS, other then Columbus and Galileo and Galileo 2 is seen on screen, as Rick confirms above. The Way to Eden is an episode I've not seen in a log time!. TNG and DS9 have many shuttle names.

That transcript site is kind cool!

And thanks Troy, the Trek Universe is cool!

Nelson,

I love that site. It has wonderful pics, too. I've used hundreds of them in trivia threads on another board.

The transcripts are quite good; every now and then there will be an error or two. But on the whole, they're solid.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I was listening to The Menagerie this past weekend and thought of a good question.

What does Commodore Mendez's intials J.I. stand for? THe first intial you should know. Though I never heard what name the "I" is for, so it's extra special credit if you know it. I'll look it up cause I asked the question!

Nelson,

Great question! I'm guessing the 'J' stands for Jose; does the 'I' stand for 'Imendez'? I have not looked this one up, so I could be way off here.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Hi Scott!

You're right, it is Jose! But I have not found what the "I" is for yet.

Nelson,

Okay, great. I don't think I can come up with the 'I' without cheating, so I'll let someone else take a crack at it.
