Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films) - Page 41

Hey Scott,

Yeah, the Babel gaff is a big one! I'm keeping an eye out for more. But so far, I haven't seen anything. There is a similar kind of thing going on with the red rails on the TOS bridge. Some times in first season episodes, I can't name a specific episode off the top of my head, the blu-rays made it even more clear that they put red tape around the joints of the rails! Some episodes had the tape and most didn't.

Regarding redressed sets, Data's quarters was used for Worf and O'Brian. The ceiling beam that jogs down onto the side wall is the give away. You can see it in Kirk's quarters.

And I had it wrong, The Enterprise corridor sets are mostly new.

Greg, yes, I was just pointing out trivia rather then asking a trivia question!

I'm not as familiar with Voyager, so those ships I am not sure about. I can guess that one is from Species 84619, or whatever the number is.

Nelson, a search on 8472 showed you are correct.  I don't think they had anything to do with season 6, so it's pretty random that they were the feature ship on the cover and the menus.

Thanks!

Interesting Greg, I have not seen my Voyager DVD's in a long time. I guess they ran out of ships!

Huh, I thought it was a Vorlon cruiser.

Just out of curiosity, Nelson, have you ever played Elite Force? It's an FPS game based on Voyager, and the expansion CD allowed you to roam a good chunk of the ship just looking around. (There are some fan made TOS maps for it too.) It's as close as you can get to walking those sets until someone builds a Trek theme park.

Hey Bill!

No, surprisingly, I have not played any of the current Star Trek video games! I played one game that came out in the early 90's for the Mac. It was based on TNG.

I'd been curious of these modern games because actual cast members had filmed segments for them as well as do voice-overs.

One of these days I may try them!

Somebody recreated the TOS Enterprise for Elite Force as well as TOS-era Starbases and planetary installations.  Here's an archived version:

http://web.archive.org/web/20041209105626/www.synchro.eurobell.co.uk/pics_2.htm

Don't know if it's easily available.  Nelson, you *know* you want to play that.

Ha, Ha! Yes, I would be tempted to play a Trek game. I used to be into Doom and Marathon on the Macintosh. There was a time where I used to work that at about 5:00pm, the network would suddenly slow as a large number of people would take some time off work to play Marathon back in 1992 or 3!

That TOS era link has some pretty well made scenes!

The other Trek specific game I mentioned earlier was called Rescue. it was very simple and Paramount caught wind of it and had all Trek references removed. I just fired up my old Mac Powerbook 2300 and it's still in there, as well as Doom and Marathon! (It will make the Devils old noise if we start it)

I'll check these new games out. I'd rather play them on a Playstation, but I'm still behind with a PS2! I may get a PS3 once Gran Turismo 5 comes out.

The only issue I have with Elite Force is it's not based on an actual Trek series, if I understand it. I never looked into it because it looked like it was based on Trek, using the Trek name, but totally new.

Silverwook, Nelson,

Our eldest son has played Elite Force several times.  The few times I have watched him while he was playing it, it seemed to be a lot of fun.  There were a lot of Romulans in the two or three battles that I saw him engaged in, and the strategy seemed to be kind of complicated.  I like hearing some of the voices of characters from various Trek crews, too.

The first one is actually based on and set on Voyager, with the second being based on TNG.  The characters in your squad are new, but you interact with the entire crew and even have Tuvok along for some missions.  The sequel came out after Voyager had ended, and they decided to place you on the Enterprise-E.  Again, your squad is new characters, but you interact with Picard and some others.

Scott, You, Greg and Bill are making me more curious!

Greg, thanks for the clarification, Bill did mention the Voyager link. I see. That makes it more interesting to check out. Especially interesting with the real actor's participation.  I thought that Shatner and Takei had been involved in some other games too.

Edit: Okay, I took a little time to review the games on wikipedia. Elite Force and Elite Force 2 both sound pretty interesting! Now you guys got me more interested to try to find them. I also found the game info for Star Trek Legacy. I guess that one didn't fare very well. But the Elite Force series game was much more successful.

I did some reading on Amazon and found some used copies of Elite Force. The Expansion pack is sold separately. but is it just the expansion, or does it include the original game too? So does one need to buy both the original game and the expansion pack? I'm surprised I'm so curious now!

Perhaps I should start a separate thread.

Interestingly, Jeri was the only one not to participate in the original Elite Force (I think), but she recorded her lines later and replaced the stand-in if you patched the game.  The expansion doesn't include the game, though that Collector's Edition might.  I'll try to find out.  If it does, that's the one to get, because a brand new copy is reasonable at $39.99.  Much better than what the other versions are going for.

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Voyager-Elite-Collectors-Pc/dp/B00004WHWG/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1277233797&sr=8-9

The expansion is not terrific--one Captain Proton holodeck level and a Klingon holodeck level--but it does add the ability to roam over Voyager.  Also, I think it added a tricorder, but it's been too long for me to be sure about that.  The game was great fun when it came out but a little weak now.  If you're not big into shooters and haven't watched shooters evolve, maybe it'll still be fun.  I think the big draw for you might be the ability to run the TOS user maps.

Edit: Doesn't look like the Collector's has the expansion.

Thanks Greg! Now I know I need to get both. The Macintosh version is a little more money, unless I get a used copy.

The most recent shooter I played have been the Electronic Arts James Bond series of games. The last one being From Russia With Love on PS2 from 2005. That wasn't too bad. One can duck, roll, hide behind walls and shot. I was recently replaying it.

The reviews at Amazon are all pretty much positive!

As a huge TOS fan, this made me chuckle. My apologies if this has already been seen 'round these parts:

The custom maps are what keeps Elite Force interesting after all these years. I spent weeks simply exploring the Starbase 11 map. Someone has made new Captain Proton missions recently as well. I really need to reinstall the game!

There is a little bit of TOS in the original game too.

Interesting Bill. Sounds like Grand Theft Auto. You can explore when you're not on a mission.

No trivia today, but I saw a great link at trekmovie.com. Leonard Nimoy is on Twitter now.

He's been posting images on his twitpic page for some time. I thought a pic from yesterday was great! A BBQ on the Paramount lot during Star Trek's second season. Check it out! Also has some other images from Nimoy's collection in and out of Star Trek.

These images apparently were shot for a Hollywood gossip rag at the time and the full article can be found here on a fan site. The article also says that the blonde girl in one of the shots is Grace Lee Whitney visiting the set! Great stuff in his scrapbook:

Nelson,

Very nice pictures.  Some of those I have never seen before.  I love the ones that are promoting various episodes (The Menagerie, Balance of Terror, etc.).  And I really love those fanzines.

The font for some of the interviews from that fan's page is quite small, but I'm able to make out some of it.  The pictures are awesome, though.

Yeah, done during that dark period of the 70's before the films! Great stuff!

Nelson,

I've shared your links with two other Boards on which I post.  They are being received quite graciously.  Nice! :)

Cool!

Great find, Nelson! Seeing those pictures reminded me of this commercial.

This is what the 2009 movie sets should have looked like.

Thanks!

Since I have little better to do on a Saturday night, I decided to look this up.  They didn't make an appearance in the sixth season.  But the more nerd-fascinating thing for me was a quick read of Commander Valerie Archer from "In the Flesh" turned up the actress who played her. One Kate Vernon...who was also Ellen Tigh on BSG.  Never realized it.

There's our trivia for the day.

Good catch Jason!

Speaking of Voyager, I've been slammed with work recently. I work at home so I can play DVD's in my home office while I work! I've been playing some Season 3 episodes of Voyager and am into Season 4 now.

I have not seen these in a long time. Interesting to see Scorpion again and the intro to 7 of 9. So here's a easy one, what was 7 of 9's human name?

Nelson,

Annika Hanson.  I'm not sure of the spelling without looking it up, though.

Correct!  I'm not sure of the spelling either, but it's close enough.

If you don't mind, I'd like to throw another question out.

I've been watching Mission: Impossible a lot recently too. Season 1 and 2. Since this show was filmed at the same time as TOS, I am not only enjoying these shows, but looking for anything that might have crossed the stages and ended up in either show! For example, there is a chair in Dan's apartment that is the same chair used to make the Captain's chair on the bridge.

I noticed a large set piece was used on 2 Mission episodes that I believe was used on a TOS second season episode. Maybe someone else has noticed it, can you name it? This is a single large item.

And I have to check screen grabs, but I think another large piece of a set wall is used and redressed for both shows. It's used as the room walls.

Nelson,

Dang.  I thought you were going to ask which actor(s) showed up in both series.  I could have nailed that one. ;)

Hmmm, a prop from the second season of TOS.  How about the Beta 5 Computer from Assignment: Earth?

Ha,ha, Scott, I did have the actors question in mind because you're right, there is a really surprising number of major and minor actors who appeared on both shows. That can be the next question!

Scott, it wasn't the Beta 5 computer, but you are very warm! and you have the right episode. This is like Bill's question earlier, about props crossing the stages! Keep guessing!

Wow, I have the right episode and it's not the Beta 5?  Isis doesn't count, right? ;)

I was going to mention the 'Napoleon Solo'-like pen, but that doesn't seem like it would be warm compared to the Beta 5.  How about the desk in Roberta Lincoln's office?
