From blu-ray.com:

"An article in Home Media Magazine has revealed the special features which will accompany the five films being released as part of the 'Dirty Harry Ultimate Collector's Edition' box set. The five-disc set will contain all five Dirty Harry films presented as "deluxe editions" along with audio commentary from Clint Eastwood and Richard Schickel, an interviews gallery, the TV special "Clint Eastwood: The Man from Malpaso", and the featurettes "The Long Shadow of Dirty Harry" and "Dirty Harry: The Original and Dirty Harry Way".

Additionally, the first film in the series, 'Dirty Harry', will be released as a "special edition" two-disc Blu-ray/coffee book release. Similar to the upcoming release of 'Bonnie and Clyde', the film will come with a 40-page hardcover book with information including production history, star filmography, and behind-the-scenes photos."

Looks like the 5 disc set will retail at $129 and the coffee book DIRTY HARRY for $34.99.

Warner also intend to release ten of these book/dvd packages over "the next year". BONNIE AND CLYDE we know about but they also mention NORTH BY NORTHWEST, GONE WITH THE WIND, BLADE RUNNER (yes, really), WOODSTOCK and perhaps more than one of the HARRY POTTER series. This despite WB saying three of those titles wouldn't arrive until 2009.

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Surely the commentaries will be on the regular Dirty Harry Collection as well?

I can't imagine they would press separate discs for the regular collection and the ultimate collector's set.

sounds like a dream team Schickel and Eastwood

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

I can't believe they would re-release GWTW and Blade Runner simply to do one of these book-style packages. I'm looking forward to the 2-disc release of Dirty Harry and some of the other Special Editions mentioned, but please WB, don't start hopping on the multiple reissue bandwagon of films that have already received great attention and which so many other studios have been criticized for in the past. There's so many more significant things to focus on and unreleased titles to concern yourselves with. The upcoming Bonnie & Clyde looks like a classy set, but please don't turn it all into a schlocky gimmick...

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Like it or not Warner will be re-doing (some) of their previous releases with new high-def transfers for Blu-Ray and with a matching SD DVD release.

Seriously some people really crack me up sometimes. If they release these only to BD the "SD only" crowd would bitch and moan about being left out, as it stands they're giving you the opportunity to pick up the same new special edition set as the BD (though in lower resolution) and people still bitch. They're not forcing you to buy any title they redo so if you're not interested simply don't buy it.

Is it any wonder why Warner wants nothing to do with online chats anymore with the nonsensical complaining that goes on around here?

I'm glad someone said it.

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Right, because not re-releasing Blade Runner three months after it just came out in six different editions to get some book, is really what SD only crowds will be complaining about...

Likewise I'm sure for Gone With The Wind and every single other catalog title already definitively released in the past three years. I don't care if WHV wants to waste annual resources and budgets by revisiting every single DVD they've released in the past that are slated for BluRay as well... who the hell's going to rebuy all of these things for a "collector's book"?!?

Granted some of these selections such a NBNW are valid and I welcome and anticipate their releases, but if WHV are going to do this for every single classic film that's already been put out with a bumped up price tag and a book of production photos thrown in... good luck to 'em cause I don't anticipate the SD reissued to start flying off the racks anytime soon!

Marco,
The thing about "Gone with the Wind" is its BR release next year during its 70th anniversary year. The only complaint I might have about these releases is "Blade Runner", but with me having it on Blu-ray, it really doesn't affect me so who am I to tell a studio they can't release their titles as they see fit?

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Robert, I agree with you and my only reason for commenting as such was the announcement of Blade Runner. It doesn't affect me because I won't buy it anyways, but I find it ridiculous that they'd revisit this title after putting out six or seven different editions only a month back, just to include the extra book. It just striked me as the sort of thing that WHV would've been critical of other home video companies doing years back, as they've joked with us about this in the past. Anyways, let's talk about DIRTY HARRY in this thread... has art work for the first movie's Special Edition been posted anywhere on the web yet?

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Here's a brief article about the upcoming set.

And I really hope I don't become "that message board person" but seeing that pile of junk above I will once again reiterate my own personal feeling, which is that I much preferred Warner Home Video when they gave us a simple keep case with original movie poster art and a fitting price tag. Granted, I've yet to see the plain old 2-discer yet, but please just give me the original Don Siegel movie in a regular keep case with the classic one sheet cover!

I'm sure some will undoubtedly be excited about that however, so to them I say... enjoy.

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

I still believe that his Dollar trilogy he did with Sergio Leone are far superior to the Dirty Harry Films, especially A Fistful of Dollars

Well.. duh!

Are these films really so great at all, past the first one?

At least you get a wallet and metal badge with a removable laminated I.D. card to impress the ladies.

Re: Eastwood to do commentaries for DIRTY HARRY set!

Well, I'm excited!! The movies are the main thing obviously, but I like having lots of extra crap to play with. I may even stick my own photo over Clint's and use the i.d to "bust" some "punks".

And I like all the DIRTY HARRY films except the abomination that is THE DEAD POOL. Cinematically, they're not a patch on the DOLLARS trilogy, obviously, but they have a lot of nostalgia value for me, from the days when I was too young to see them and had to be content with reading the erm . . . novelizations.

But MODS !!! PLEASE change the title of this thread to " Details of the DIrty Harry Set" or something. I look more of an idiot every day this is up there!

The first one is indeed a masterpiece. The second one is all the more interesting as it was mostly conceived as an answer to the wrath against the first movie. The third one has good action scenes and sensibility but does not add much to the saga; it's above all a common actioner. The fourth movie is very naive but quite ambigious. The final one is a lot of laughs.
I already own the whole saga and it pains me to cash again...

Re: DIRTY HARRY set! Details now known.

I'm not sure I've ever understood the hostility towards The Dead Pool. I always found it to be even with The Enforcer and far superior to the series low-point, Sudden Impact. At any rate, I'm just glad the series is getting the re-release it deserves.

Re: DIRTY HARRY set! Details now known.

Full artwork is now available at DVDTimes, the covers kinda suck...

Not surprisingly, WHV went the revisionist route again. Instead of the silly "reproduction lobby poster cards" they should've just used these images on the damn cases. It's too bad the sudden shift in their new marketing campaign is steering the art department in this lame direction. Oh well, could be a lot worse...

I'm looking forward to picking up the Special Edition of the original film!

Re: DIRTY HARRY set! Details now known.

Yes, it could be. Anyone remember the first release of Dirty Harry on VHS? Centred photo of Eastwood on green and black ersatz dot matrix print in a clamshell box? Now THAT's ugly.

They used that same photo (with and without various borders) for pretty much every cover of every video release on every format up until the DVD. They've never used anything but a still photo for Magnum Force's covers up until now.

I quite like the new individual covers.

Re: DIRTY HARRY set! Details now known.

Doesn't sound like the ULT version is collected in the complete set I like all the gizmos, but I want the movies first. Oh well, could be worse of course, just be nice to finally own these in a definative version.

Thanks Warners!

I take it you're one of those people who'd absolutely hate the Limited Editions of films on DVD released in Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. Too bad... Oh, and you'd also hate TheImportForums.com Far too elaborate packaging for your tastes.
