Apple hit one out of the park yesterday. This is going to be so cool.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

It would be nice to see a preview of what kind of apps will be developed.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

They demoed several during the presentation. Not sure how long that link will be good, but for now you can even see it in HD.

And of course, who knows what else developers out there in the rest of the world can come up with?

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

I'd love to have an app that allowed me to just customize the icons, colors, and simple things like that.

I mean I know that we can rearrange them and all since 1.1.3 but more like the theme packs that jailbroken iphones can do.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

This is interesting. I'm a 5-year Palm user, my wife a few years longer. Neither of us can consider switching to a new "smartphone" unless it supports the type of applications we use. And as neat as the iPhone is, it's still merely a phone, lacking even rudimentary tools that PDAs have had for over a decade.

But the iPhone is now poised to reinvigorate the moribund PDA / smart-phone niche. This could be very fun.

I think you'll be waiting a while for that. Not for technical reasons but for political ones.

Too bad none of the programs will be able to run in the background.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

Steve Jobs has recently stated that FLASH in its full
form cannot run effectively in the iPhone without consuming
too much power. FLASH LITE is an alternative, but not
fulfilling enough to consider.

I think we are a very short time away from seeing some major
advancements in iPhone functionality due to the SDK package.

In addition, I am looking forward to the announcement of
the 3G version that will hopefully occur in June (as rumored).

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

Surely with a 3G phone there will be a big leap in storage as well. With the Touch at 32 gigs I could see at least that as a minimum in the next generation.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

It would not surprise me to see a Firefox browser with "Flash Lite" available for the iPhone by Fall ...

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

Just a little uncomfortable about paying what I predict
will be $600 for a 3G (32GB?) iPhone after one year and
one replacement inbetween (mine was stolen while out at
a convention last September).

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

$600 is a bit steep for 32 gigs but 64....hhhmmmmm, that would be tempting!

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

3rd party apps should open the gui enough to please most of us.

My wait to v2 attitude is finally feeling an itch. Hurry up June!

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

I'm pleased to see that SplashData is planning to create an iPhone version of their SplashID. This is the one Palm / Desktop app I can't live without.

Re: In case you missed the iPhone / iTouch SDK info

SplashID is a secure personal information manager. Most simply, it holds all of your passwords for convenience. But more generally, it's a database for all private data. I use it to hold all my passwords, Credit Card #s, online bank account logins, voicemail PINs, etc. I use both the PDA and the Desktop Toolbarversions. My wife uses their SplashShopper for groceries, household goods, etc. I use it for Xmas lists

That SplashID seems incredibly dangerous to me. Why put all your eggs in one basket?
