Speaker placement in relation to Television

I have read that the center and front speakers should be level with, but not extrude beyond the tv/screen to minimize additional reflection. If I am to buy an LCD TV or a Projector/Screen, do I have to mount it a good distance from the front wall so that it is not situated behind the speakers?

One more question, can one install their center behind a projector screen or does this kill the sound?

Re: Speaker placement in relation to Television

Place your mains away from the wall and leave your LCD mounted directly on the wall. You shouldn't notice an issue with reflections. Dolby Labs has a very good placement diagram.

You can place the center behind the screen if your screen is acoustically transparent. It will reduce the highs a little so you may need to add some EQ or use a bright speaker.
