Mac as whole-home audio controller

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and look forward to contributing once I gain more knowledge to share!

I'm interested in setting up a Mac centric whole house audio controller. My house is wired for speakers all terminating in a central D-Mark. I'm either going to put a multisource/zone amp there with Mac/Itunes as a source or try to get ITunes to farm out multiple streams via AirTunes. I think the former is better since it gives more options down the road (AM/FM radio, TV, Satellite).

Is there an easy way to control a multi-zone amp with the Mac? I'd like to use an iPod Touch in each room as my controller (through remote buddy or signal) rather than the stock controllers made by Niles, Russounds, Crestron, etc.

Re: Mac as whole-home audio controller

I use iTunes as my source but use a Roku SoundBridge to interface with it remotely in the second zone. The Roku's are cheap and give you a very iPod like interface so they're easy to use.
