Mill Creek's "Essential TV Westerns" - Coming May 6, 2008

Here's Mill Creek's third box set of 150 episodes coming on May 6th; the shows represented include the following:

1. Adventures of Jim Bowie, The
2. Adventures of Kit Carson, The
3. Annie Oakley
4. Bonanza
5. Cowboy G-Men
6. Dusty's Trail
7. Gabby Hayes Show, The
8. Judge Roy Bean
9. Northwest Passage
10. Outlaws
11. Pistols 'N' Petticoats
12. Range Rider, The
13. Rango
14. Roy Rogers Show, The
15. Sheriff of Cochise
16. Shotgun Slade
17. Stories of the Century
18. Tate
19. Twenty-six Men

There are no specific episode titles listed for this release, but a couple of shows listed appear to be making their commercial DVD release debuts, including "Outlaws" and "Rango." More details here:

The "new" stuff is the hook. Unfortunately, most of the shows represented here have a limited number of episodes in the public domain and have been released many times over. Without specific episode titles, it's hard to say whether or not I'd buy this. I don't know if a few episodes of "Rango" and "Outlaws" will be a big enough of a hook for potential purchasers of this set, if most of the other shows represented have had multiple releases. I was also surprised to see "Tate" listed as that limited run series was released in its entirety by Timeless Media last Fall. I guess some of the episodes are PD.

Of their last two collections, (Western TV Classics and Ultamate TV Westerns]) Only TWO Episodes were duplicated, Buried Treasure - Cisco Kid & The Contest - Hawkeye: Last of the Mohecans.
Hopefully this new set will contain as many new episodes. On the otherhand, if the Majority of Episodes are Duplicated, FUGHEDDABOUDIT!

Well, they are kind of pushing their luck as several of these series are certainly not PD.
