hank are you saying that Cupid is being thought as a returning to the airwaves show or a dvd release.

asking ecause you said.....
"Cupid finished high in the last Sony poll and Rob Thomas has met with ABC about bringing the show back so this should come out at some point I would think."

Both, actually. Sony did a poll awhile ago to gauge interest in several series for potential release on DVD. It was actually a relatively short list of titles this time, maybe about 10 (?), and "Cupid" far and away got the most votes.

In the meantime, ABC has approached creator Rob Thomas about the possibility of trying again with the series. If it happens at all, it'll undoubtedly have a new cast, which is kinda a shame. I don't know if I can picture anyone but Jeremy Piven as Trevor. But I really enjoyed the original series, so I'd give the new incarnation a try.

Re: Which short-run (1 season or less) show would you MOST like to see on DVD?

Dear Paste:

I love your choices. I hope they come out. I forget all about Muggsy. Do you ever wish that some of the teen channels like Nog would show programs like those? Instead of the same ones for months.

I kept fantasing about if tv channel that would run just short-run series from the fifties on. Does anybody there would be enough short-lived tv product to keep a channel like that going? I'm not talking financially, but just would there be enough short-lived programs?

Brisco County's been out since July 2006. If you haven't bought it yet, Deep Discount has a great sale on it right now, $24.99. As a point of comparison, Amazon's still got it listed for $69.99.

Re: Which short-run (1 season or less) show would you MOST like to see on DVD?

Here's some more (and preferably complete and uncut as well):

Peacemakers
Jake 2.0
John Doe
Flash Forward
Against the Grain - Before there was "Friday Night Lights" (the movie and TV series starring Kyle Chandler) this was NBC’s earlier attempt at a football-themed family drama (starring John Terry, Ben Affleck, and Robyn Lively). While FNL has more critical acclaim, is more grittier, and ran longer than this predecessor, it's sad to see history repeating itself (if this doesn't get a third season renewal).
3 lbs.
Still Life - This was an aborted series by Fox in 2004 and was loosely based on the novel "The Lovely Bones" (which Peter Jackson of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "King Kong" fame is adapting to the screen next). Along with "Supernatural's" Jensen Ackles, "Still Life" also featured Morena Baccarin ("Firefly", "Serenity"), David Keith, Susanna Thompson, Chad Faust ("The 4400"), Audrey Marie Anderson ("The Unit"), Warren Christie ("Ray 'Big Cat' Cataldo" on "October Road"), Bryce Johnson, and Tygh Runyan. Former Buffy: The Vampire Slayer writer/executive producer Marti Noxon and Kip Koenig (writer on "Grey's Anatomy") were also involved. I've only seen the pilot, but it’s a very moving and well written and acted series. Fox made a grave mistake by canceling this series after taking such a long time on deciding whether or not to air it. I hope one day all 7 episodes will be made available.

And I realize these are cooking shows, but I'm also waiting on the following:
Jamie at Home
Jamie's School Dinners/Jamie's Return to School Dinners (aired on TLC as "Jamie's School Lunch Project", though I never saw the follow-up special to this)
Jamie's Great Italian Escape (aired in the UK as "Jamie's Great Escape")

That's easily remedied.

True. Unfortunately, for those of us who want certain shows but can only get them by taping off the TV, this is something we have to live with.

I would definitely buy She's the Sheriff, Gloria and One in a Million (Shirley Hemphill's series) if they were ever released. Probably a longshot but if they keep digging for new things to release start releasing the rare hardly-ever-seen stuff, then I would hope to see, at least, one of these come out.

Actually, if it was reasonably priced (and with how long it was on, how could it not be?), I might check it out as a blind-buy since I'm a fan of Chi McBride's and I never had a chance to check that out.

Well, it was different.. that's for sure. I really liked it. I'm into Civil War history so it was bizarre seeing this humorous take on the Lincoln Administration, but a lot of people were upset with it and rightfully so.. there's one episode (the best out of the 6 if I recall) on YouTube you can find if you search Desmond Pfeifer.. definitely check it out.

The Powers of Matthew Star (Paramount TV/NBC, 1982-1983) should be released on DVD.

Technically, though, that one was two (albeit short) seasons, wasn't it?

No, it was one long season consisting of 22 episodes, with the "pilot" being saved as the finale. Strange, isn't it?

I think what had me confused was the format change halfway through. I remember the show being delayed a year or so due to Peter Barton's accident. Guess I just assumed it premiered in the Spring and came back for Fall, which I now know not to be the case.

Yeah, I remember the story about the different pilot airing last (though I didn't see it). I'm sure it was strange even then, but you can be certain that networks wouldn't do that today (unless it were promoted as a "rare" alternate episode). I guess NBC had so much invested in this turkey that they felt they needed to get it all "on the screen", or maybe they were running short of original programming.

The only episode I have any real memories of watching was the "dungeons and dragons" one.

would love to get the Doctor Who spinoff pilot K-9 and Company (1981), if they don't want to do a proper release they should use it as an extra of The Sarah Jane Adventures, am sure that will get a release.

Make Room For Grandaddy-never saw it but after watching season 6 of Make Room For Daddy I figure it might be interesting to see how the cast aged and to see them all in color.

Darkroom-never understood why this show didn't last longer. James Coburn made a great host and several of the stories were pretty good.

Harris Against the World-never saw this one either but if it has Jack Klugman it's worth a look.

Re: Which short-run (1 season or less) show would you MOST like to see on DVD?

Wow, this was a great, fun thread until it turned into some kind of generation gap debate about...nothing. I guess I should never be surprised by any discussion that develops in an online forum, but there really was no call to taint what should have been a simple question with unnecessary qualifiers. The original post was fine and needed no moralizing on people's habits or lifestyle, no matter what they are nor when they were born.

In any case, my vote goes for a very obscure show from 1969 called THE OUTCASTS. It was a dark, gritty, violent western about an ex-confederate soldier teaming up with an ex-slave and working as bounty hunters. I know, I know, has there ever been a more late-60's high concept than that one? LOL. It ran for one season and was criticized at the time for its violence, but I remember it being a good show even though I was pretty young when it aired. Anyone else remember it?

I've also written extensively on the history of the 1960's spy craze and while many of the entries of that period are available in one form or another, a forgotten show that ran on CBS for one season, 1963-64, called ESPIONAGE remains elusive. Any of the pre-GOLDFINGER film titles in the spy genre are fascinating to me because most of their inspiration comes from the more serious spy film and novel heritage, plus the burgeoning influence of the Ian Fleming novels and first two Bond movie adaptations. GOLDFINGER really changes that landscape forever. ESPIONAGE was a unique in that it was an anthology series with the common link being spy stories. I've managed to see one episode at the MT&R in Beverly Hills and it was very interesting, all about an American secret service agent with effeminate characteristics who must fight rumors, started by the enemy, that he is gay. It was quite shocking for its time.

There's so many others, but I've rambled on enough for one post.
