I've never ordered from overseas..

I know HD DVD's are region free. Where are the best places to order HD DVD's from overseas? I'm thinking about keeping my eyes peeled for some sales, and I know there were titles from studios like Fox, Sony, etc. that were released on HD DVD overseas. Of course, I want to make sure the menus/etc and language are all in English, and I don't really even know how to check that. Does anybody have any input?

Check out this company here in the U.S. He imports a lot of the overseas stuff.

I have ordered SD DVDs from Amazon uk. They were fast and I had no problems.
The guy from above will list stuff like languages and subtitles in this descriptions.

Re: I've never ordered from overseas..

I ordered Terminator 2 HD-DVD this afternoon from Amazon UK. Roughly $20 after shipping. I said I wouldn't but did anyway. No self-restraint, I tell ya.

Re: I've never ordered from overseas..

You probably can't go wrong with any of the Amazons.

However, let me pass along one tip. Some credit cards charge a currency exchange fee over and above the exchange rate. For instance, I think CHASE's fee is 3% right now. I learned that the hard way when I ordered the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman sets from Australia (www.ezydvd.com.au).

For foreign orders I now use a Capital One card because it doesn't have an extra fee.

I'm sure there are other cards out there that also don't have a fee. Although sometimes it's hard to figure out just by looking around at the card websites.

Currently, there's a nice promo on Amazon.de Many Columbia HD DVDs are selling for 9,97EURO. I've recently purchased Chronicles of Riddick, Children of Men, Casino, Red Dragon, King Kong, Apollo 13, and a couple more.

Just make sure to check out the reviews and specs (if available). E.g. all Euro/Australia HD DVDs of "King Kong (2005)" are missing "U-Control - Picture-In-Picture" commenrary and e.g. "Mr. Bean's Holiday"-releases are missing Dolby TrueHD-track. Stuff like that. Since Europe/Australia often has to add like zillion dubs and subs, some extras/HD-audio might´ve been removed..

And same goes to Blu-ray!

Re: I've never ordered from overseas..

I have my eye on Capricorn One on Blu-ray from Amazon.uk. Its a region 0 title. I use a VISA debit card for all my online purchases. I never use a credit card for that stuff. If i cant afford it now, i dont need it. But i have never used my debit card for overseas purchases.

I'm very tempted by the French release of 3 Days of the Condor on HD DVD!

I'm with you here. If I don't have the cash in my bank account, I don't buy it.

A very sensible approach (I wish my sister would learn it ). However, I would imagine it's possible that debit cards may also have that extra fee I spoke about. It can pay to do the homework.

BTW, I use my credit cards instead of cash. I assure you that I have the money in the bank to pay it off every month. Credit cards are just a tool (as are debit cards). It's all in how they are used.

French subs are "forced" on that one.

"Serpico" has also forced subs at least, and there are also some others (which I can´t remember at the moment).
