What? That didn't sound "open-minded" to you?

You almost fooled me though with your little rant.

Not everyone enjoys being spoon-fed BS. That is what I like best about HTF, (most) members here tend to be a bit more realistic in what they will accept and who they will accept it from. In other words, many of the members here have been around long enough to welcome useful information, just don't piss down their back and tell them it's raining.

You mean like

Indiana Jones. May. HD DVD.

Why is this thread even open anymore? Real legitiment news like the Netflix annoucement, Best Buy, and Walmart all get closed or merged into an ambiguous multiple thousand post thread where no one will see it again while completely unfounded nonsense remains for all to see.

Perhaps now that even Toshiba is about to throw in the towel, the owner and mods of this site will remove their veil of neutrality and publicly support the only format that will be providing movies in HD for consumers to own. This has always been about home theatre right? Right?

Always the class act, aren't you Mr. George?!

I don't mind paranoia. It is something I have dealt with for a while, people forget that I was posting on AVS and Blu-ray.com well before I took up my role as an insider at both places...

As for my background, it isn't something I can go into much detail with. In fact there is only one person on the whole of the internet that knows my identity and he is staff member at Blu-ray.com.

I will tell you now that I work for a very large financial institute that has a large interest in the future success of Hollywood for various reasons. For that reason we have been asked by certain companies to use our influence within Hollywood to settle the format war once and for all, and I think we acquitted ourselves well when Time Warner and their subsidiaries went Blu-ray exclusive.

Wow, I'm really impressed. No, really. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad atleast someone else noticed the 'trend' around here.

Neutrality? That's a strong word, one that is hard to actually live upto. Anyhow, I'd be careful with those suggestions, for it is considered "insulting" around here to do so.

As for BD50 production, you may claim everything is great, but the reality on the street is continual delays in releases, the vast majority of which are, golly gee, BD50s.

Clearly an NDA means nothing in your world...

So, here's a suggestion. How about unless you have something specific to say, you say nothing. You can preach faith to the devout followers on blu-ray.com. Over here, I'd like to see something a little more concrete. When I post a rumor, I at least have the courtesy to call it that.

What I posted was not a rumour so it will not be labeled as such, if I do stoop to the levels of posting rumour or speculation, rest assured that corresponding posts will be labeled in that category.

I swear I said Blu-ray production capacity would increase by 600% by October, that is pretty specific.

Quote:
BTW, while I'm busting your balls, I'll also suggest you pass along to all your buddies in the BDA that just because HD DVD lost does not mean Blu-ray won. Think about that.

Anyway, Blu-ray won, get over it...

I think people will find that I'm a pretty straight talker, if anyone has a problem with that then so be it. I will continue to tell the truth and serve the HT community as best I can. I even called the BDA out on the last few announcements as a PR exercise, a worthy PR exercise, but not anything that had an immediate effect on HD DVD or Blu-ray (Wal-Mart and Best Buy will continue to sell HD DVD for another few months and Netflix will rent HD DVD for a while yet...). If the HD DVD PRG can't match the PR expertise of the BDA then they are in for a world of hurt (well they couldn't and they are) as in this day and age, PR makes a lot more difference than actions.

This was a few months ago, so the situation may have improved since then, but we need to wait and see how many BD50 titles really meet the shelves in 2008. I think Robert George is right to express some worry about that. (Just contradicting it won't do, of course!)

Cees

Cees, Master & Commander was delayed for purely strategic reasons along with other Fox Blu-ray titles. I can't go into why as it is still quite sensitive, but rest assured is doesn't have anything to do with production capacity.

There really isn't much I can say that won't just 'contradict' what Robert said, the BD50 shortage fallacy is exactly that. There has never been a shortage of BD50s and if there ever was Blu-ray would need exponential growth to outstrip supply by any meaningful amount.

By October a lot of people will have egg on their face...

Anyway, I have had a bunch of requests from people to post on HTF to dispel a lot of the FUD and misinformation that is posted about Blu-ray so, err, yeah I'll be probably be around from now on...

Welcome to HTF. For us mere mortals who don't know: what makes you an expert? Are you an insider of some sort or just a fanboy here to set us heathens straight?

(Heck, perhaps Maxpower1987 could introduce himself, for those of us who don't frequent other Home Theater boards!)

I work for a major financial institution that has been asked by certain members of the BDA to help sort the format war and end it in their favour, we started working with them around September 2007...

While my company has got many departments, I work in one that deals directly with Hollywood and therefore we were well connected enough to sort the whole thing out.

You're right this thread has gone beyond talking about the Indiana Jones films being released on HDM, therefore, I'm closing it.

I'm sorry that you appear to have a problem with the owner and the mods of this site in regard to our position in this format war. We were neutral in this format war despite your misgivings about our position in that matter. Perhaps, due to our active moderation of this forum even before the format war, it may appear to certain format proponents we were taking sides, but it really wasn't the case. We just didn't want to turn this forum into a bloody war zone like it has become on some other sites. Of course, a few mistakes were made, but overall, I thought we did what was best for the forum.

Anyhow, please continue the discussion about formats in the appropriate threads linked below.

You've obviously overlooked (or chosen to ignore) the dedicated sticky thread at the top of this area where these developments are separately noted as they occur.
