Re: FOX WESTERNS ON MAY - And The Gunfighter is among them!!!!!
The Western Classics will certainly have extras: I can't think of an instance when a Fox Classics release did not have extras: If CAPRICE can have an audio commentary, if THE GIRL NEXT DOOR has stellar documentaries, if the Fox Horror Classics box has audio commentaries and a documentary of John Brahm, to say nothing of the cornucopia--historical and critical--on the Charlie Chan boxes, why would this set lack extras? Hey, Skip Homeier is still alive (and that is less of a stretch than Kay Linaker who is interviewed on the CHARLIE CHAN IN RENO disc).
Considering that Fox has only access to TCF films and that they never produced shorts or cartoons, I think that their extras are more impressive than Warners. Warners owns WB, MGM, Allied Artists, etc., and I am frankly somewhat surprised how many films have been released without some sense of historical context: THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER, HELL TO ETERNITY, SERGEANT RUTLEDGE, THREE GODFATHERS, KISS ME KATE, TO BE OR NOT TO BE.
If TCF has any serious failure, they are much too modest in their marketing: I never thought that I'd ever see CALL ME MADAM or Jack Benny's wonderful CHARLEY'S AUNT ever again, let alone on dvd with significant perks. I truly hope that the possibility of an HTF chat with Fox works out.
