I'm wondering who owns the rights, if they're BD or HD, and if there's any chance of a release this year.

Disney in the U.S. Haven't heard anything about this one but I would love to see it on blu-ray.

Well, I've been eye-balling the SD-DVD at Walmart for $7.50 and trying to decide whether to wait for a hi-def release or just get the SD. I still have about 350 VHS tapes to replace and this movie is one of them.

I'd love to have this on Blu, it's a fantastic western.

Re: Open Range - any chance of HD release anytime soon?

I remember this being listed this time last year as coming in the summer (07). That obviously never happened.

Disney didn't release much of anything catalog-wise (outside of Pirates and Cars) last year. It's looking a bit better this year with Crimson Tide, The Rock, Unbreakable and Narnia but they have a lot of non-animated films I'm dying to get on BD.

Open Range
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill 1 and 2
Sin City
Tombstone
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Jackie Brown
Hero
The Sixth Sense
Signs

Waiting for the same movies to be announced plus The Count of Monte Cristo and a few others.

For $7.50, I'd pick up the SD dvd and not worry about it.

The SD DVD has an excellent thunderous DTS soundtrack and the picture quality was excellent.

Plus it is a hell of a good film.

Open Range, one heck of a good film and I would buy it on BD in a heartbeat.

As said above, go ahead and pull the trigger. It's a fine-looking (and great-sounding) disc of a fine film, with some decent supplemental material as well. That's not much more than the price of a rental, and should tide you over nicely.

I also would pick up Open Range in HD in a heart beat! The DTS track on the DVD was awsum, could you imagine that same audio track in lossless!

The best sound for gun shots I have ever heard.
