Help me HDMI handshaking Gurus, you are my only hope!

OK, I know I can make this work because it WAS working just a few days ago, then I changed something, I dont know what, and it now doesnt work.

I have 4/2 HDMI switcher from Monoprice. There are 3 feeds going to it and only one output port is currently occupied, and that ties into my Denon 3806 reciever and then gets output to my Panasonic AE-900u PJ. Output on HD DVD is always fine, it handshakes just find no matter what order I turn these components on. The PS3, however is being a BIAAAATCH.

It negotiates fine with the PJ, and I consistantly get video no problem. Audio however gets cut off for some reason cause it keeps thinking that since the PJ at the end of the line doesnt do audio, it cannot output to it.

If I set the PS3s HDMI outputs on Aiutomatic it tells me so, it says you cant do this. If I set them manually it allows it it just wont actually output.

I think I've tried turning these on in just every possible order, but maybe not. Either way I know SOMETHING can be done to make it work but not sure what.

So please, help me HDMI gurus! What should I do to fix this?

Don't know about the Denon but I have a Pioneer HDMI receiver that offers teh option of passing audio as well as video along to the tv. In other words I can choose to have the audio not get any further than the receiver or have it pass along to the tv.

Perhaps your Denon has a similar feature, and it's set to pass audio along to the projector from the PS3, but the PS3 senses that the projector can't accept the audio format the PS3 is outputting via HDMI and shuts down audio output from the PS3.

Hope this makes sesnse?

Steve it makes sense to me and I agree. Is there a way in the receiver to "tell it" to accept the audio? Have you adjusted a sound setting in the receiver recently?

Weird, I can get it to work by firing up the HD decks first, then swapping over to the PS3. Think the switch is the finiky thing here!

Did you test the same conection (PS3), but without the switch in between? And, if that works, with the switch but without any other device connected?

I always go in the proper sequence when I fire up my HT due to such HDMI handshaking issues.

Without the switch in place I have to have HDMI direct to the projector and Optical to the receiver.

Well, it's back to not working again and nothing I can do makes it work. Same situation, it works flawlessly with the Toshiba HD DVD deck but WILL NOT switch over to the PS3 audio out. I'm going to have to get a different switch. The thing is, it seems like a total crap shoot as to what switch will work with your equipment and what wont. Looking through the reviews at Amazon there seem to be 2 leading candidates for me:

Extremehd:
Amazon.com: Xtremehd 4-PORT HDmi Switcher: Electronics

Oppo (tho its only a 3 port and I really rather have 4 or 5):
Amazon.com: OPPO HM-31 Certified HDMI 1.3 and 1080p Switch: Electronics

Other sketchy choices:
Impact:
Amazon.com: 5-PORT HDMI Switch with remote - 5X HDMI In, 1 HDMI Out Black: Electronics

HDMI Switcher, which looks to be the same brand as what I have now under the monoprice name, and why is the one with the remote CHEAPER:
Amazon.com: 5-port HDMI switch with Remote Control (5-in 1-out): Electronics
Amazon.com: 5-port HDMI switch with Remote Control (5-in 1-out): Home Improvement

Also, in the reviews of this one it says that the PS3 is specially designated to go on port 5 of that device, I wonder if my 4x2 has anything similar where the PS3 needs to go on port 4? I should try that next!
