For those who still don't have the Planet Earth Blu ray, the best price I've seen on the BBC set has been posted at the Amazon UK.  Once the VAT is removed and regular shipping is added, the price comes in a bit under $32USD.  It currently lists shipping in 7-13 days with a typical 6-7 day delivery time.   Most of the time when I've ordered from Amazon UK I find the package arrives earlier than I expect.

www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Earth-Complete-BBC-Blu-ray/dp/B000SKNIWE/ref=pd_ts_zgc_d_h__383380011_1

Quick answers to the inevitable questions:
Yes it is completely region free
Yes it is BBC version with David Attenborough, not the Discovery version with Sigourney Weaver
Yes it does have 5 discs instead of the US BBC box with only 4 discs.
Yes it is 1080p for the Planet Earth episodes (discs 1-4 are identical to the US BBC set) despite the box saying 1080i.  The 5th disc is 1080i so the box takes the least common denominator truth in labelling approach.

Some CC do charge a currency conversion fee to pay in Pounds/Euro.  There is an option somewhere in the checkout procedure to "Pay in US dollars," but I've never been entirely clear if that eliminates the fee or just shows the customer the price in Home Currency value.

Send em an email!  they will fix it.  Plus, if you ordered Snow White Blu from Amazon you are eligible for another whole $10 off, taking it down to an AMAZING $27.48 shipped!

Posters at HardForum now reporting they can get the 2 four disk packs of Up/Monsters for under $35!  My preorder still shows $27.48 with the Snow White discount, I'm hesitant to ask for the price to drop to $24.98, that would just be craaaazy.

Yep, my Up! is currently $12.99 and Inc. is still $24.99. I'm not going to ask for a further discount but if it goes down again with the price guarantee that would be very nice.
I asked for the further combo discount, down another $3-4 today depending on time. I don't very often, but I've been a bit annoyed lately with their dropping pre-order prices shortly after I order. I don't really understand their policy, or at least how they interpret it: you don't get the lowest pre-order price unless you call up and ask for it while that price is in effect...that's been my experience anyway. So yeah, about $10 for Up.

Your annoyed when they lower a price on something you ordered?

My experience has been they follow their own policy and lower a price without me asking

Thanks for the heads-up on Up!/Monsters Inc., y'all.  $32.98 total as of 11/4/2009, 11:30 p.m. Central.  Just placed my order.

Yes, I think I explained quite clearly why...
Craig:  When the price of Snow White on blu went down after I ordered it, Amazon adjusted my order $5 without me asking.

Now that they have dropped the price on Up! from $22.99 (when I ordered it) to $19.99, I am expecting them to adjust my order on their own.  If they don't, they'll get an e-mail from me about it then.
They've been pretty good about updating lower prices for my few preorders so far as well although they do seem to take a day or so to do the update -- and I do wonder if an update might get skipped in cases where the preorder price only dropped for a day or less (before they get around to updating my preorder).

If the problem is w/ some sort of additional promo coupon discounts, that's probably gonna be different than standard preorder price drops anyway.  Their general policy has always reasonably been to *NOT* apply promo coupons/certificates after the order has been placed.  However, I can see them understandably make certain exceptions to that rule like seems to be done for the prior Snow White deal -- and in such cases where a specific promo coupon is required, it's sensible for them wait for you to ask them to apply it, not simply apply it automatically, since it's not something they would normally automatically apply (w/out you submitting the coupon code).

People can gripe all they want, but the customer is *NOT* always right.

BTW, nice to see the latest price drop on Up (and Monsters, Inc).  Think I'm gonna go ahead and order Up now at ~$20+tax.  Still kinda debating on whether I really want to upgrade Monsters, Inc. though -- hard to resist at essentially ~$13+tax w/ that $10 off deal.  Guess I can just give away our old DVD to one of my siblings (and his/her toddler), especially since the BD comes w/ the DVD.

And oh, I now see that Harry Potter got knocked down to ~$17 -- that'd be another buck off for my preorder.

Amazon's FAQ for the Pre-order Price Guarantee says to allow up to 24 hours for the price change to be applied to your order.  If it happens after your item has already shipped, you will be notified of the amount of your refund within 24 hours of the end of the day of release (if the street date is a Tuesday, you will be notified by the end of Wednesday).

In the past, Amazon has always honored those terms for me.  Always.

yes you did, I'm still not sure what the hassle is.

Just in case amazon would accidentally forget to lower a price I put things I ordered back into my cart and check it every day or so just to see if anything was lowered then if they don't lower within a day i just shoot them an email.
I'm sorry you find it to be annoying, I find it to be a feature of using Amazon.

That's how it worked with me for Snow White. In fact, they issued a credit to my card, which they'd already charged at the higher price. And I also received a notice that the Columbia Film Noir set was being charged at a lower price after I'd received the shipping notice that listed the old higher price.

The only time I've had to contact Amazon customer service about a problem was an instance in which a 2-for-$10 sale price wasn't applied to an order, and they fixed it.

I'm not seeing the "Pay in US Dollars" option on that Amazon.uk site.  Anyone know how to get to it?

AFAIK there is no such option on the UK site; it's different to the US site in many ways.

Go to "Your Account" then in the section "Payment & GC" click "Turn On/Turn Off Amazon Currency Converter" then click the help link to find out how it works.

Wow.  Thanks, Robert.  It'll be hard not to pre-order those titles-of-interest-to-us from that list.

On the one hand, those would be pre-order prices to be perfectly happy with.  OTOH, we could also have the fun of watching to see if we get further price drops as we get closer to their respective release weeks.

I actually preordered Harry Potter (for ~$18) a long while back thinking I probably wouldn't find a noticeably better deal during release week since it comes out more than a week after BF/CM.  Placed the preorder as part of a bigger order that met Amazon's free shipping requirement *before* adding HP so I could opt to cancel HP later w/out penalty, if a better deal does show up.   So far, it's working out very well -- and I won't need to worry about ordering it w/ something else to get free shipping now.

Does that include Gomorrah (and The Third Man)?  Otherwise, it's too little too late at least for some of us.  The B&N deal was better anyway (for those of us w/ B&N membership).  I even recently realized I could convert Amex rewards points into B&N gift cards, so did just that and ordered additional titles from B&N just before their sale expired.

Amazon is gradually matching the other sites/superchains for BF pricing.

Wrath of Khan (and Voyage Home) are now $7.99.
