They've been raising the prices on many of those items over the last few days. Mad Men, Season 1 went from $24.99 to $29.99 and then to $31.99 (and now $34.95). Roy Orbison, A Black and White Night went from $14.99 to $18.99 (then dropped back to $16.95). I'm sure there are others, but those are just two that I happened to notice.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

A lot of those B2G1 discs were part of an "up to 50% off" sale that ended yesterday (or maybe today), so I expect them to go up in price before the B2G1 sale starts tomorrow.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Amazon jacked the prices up even more this morning. They've got $20 Blu's selling for $27, and $12 titles like Terminator and Crank raised to $20. Not a real sale after all.

I can confirm this and add the following titles:

Crash
The Punisher
Rambo I
Rambo II
Rambo III
Reservoir Dogs
Saw I
Saw II
Stargate
Terminator 2
Total Recall
Young Guns

It's kinda like the dawning of a new $10 HD bin @ Wal-Mart! Except on a shelf!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I just saw this week's Toys R Us ad -- all Blu-Rays are buy 2 get 1 free. Prices there tend to be about the same as other B&M stores.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Check your Target receipts! You know how sometimes they print out a little grocery coupon along with it? I just got one for $5 off any Blu-Ray disc.

Mike,
If you look at the 39.98 MSRP for that BRD, I have a feeling that it might be a pricing mistake by Amazon or it's such a bad film, they're trying to move this on Blu-ray. Anybody interested in this title, better buy it now.

Amazon has Iron Man, Transformers, Indy IV at 16.99 this morning. There might be a couple of more titles at that price too.

As per usual practice, Amazon appears to have matched all of BB's sale prices. Appaloosa, Tropic Thunder, Wanted and Get Smart have all dropped to $22.99, which makes them a lot cheaper than Circuit City's "liquidation" pricing of $28.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

For what it's worth, Amazon sent out copies of Henry Poole to Vine reviewers. They only rarely offer DVDs in Vine.

Aaron: What does that mean? "Vine?" Color me ignorant.

I bit on the amazon price on Henry Poole, by the way. I read a few more reviews plus engaged in a conversation with a Blockbuster employee who had watched it and came away thinking it might be something I'd like.

And as of this writing the $13.99 price on the BD @ Amazon still stands.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I don't know if anybody's still buying HD-DVD, but my local Kroger had a slew of Universal combo discs in a cardboard bin marked "Blow Out." Here are some of the titles that I remember, along with prices:

ANIMAL HOUSE - $3.99
THE BREAKFAST CLUB - $3.99
ACCEPTED - $4.99
UNLEASHED - $4.99
THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT - $5.99
SLITHER - $5.99
ALPHA DOG - $5.99
BALLS OF FURY - $5.99
BREACH - $5.99
CHILDREN OF MEN - $5.99
EASTERN PROMISES - $5.99
jET LI'S FEARLESS - $5.99
THE GOOD SHEPHERD - $5.99
HOLLYWOODLAND - $5.99
HOT FUZZ - $5.99
MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY - $5.99
TALK TO ME - $5.99
YOU, ME, AND DUPREE - $5.99
MIAMI VICE - $6.99
ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE - $5.99

There may have been a few more, and I may have gotten a few of these prices wrong, but that's the gist of it. Since they're all combos, I expect them to move pretty quickly once people realize that they're getting an SD DVD if they buy it.

Your mileage may vary.

Just a quick heads up - "Band Of Brothers" (Blu Ray) is available at Amazon as a Gold Box deal today for $34.99.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Mike, Amazon Vine is a group of people who get review copies of various products (mostly books) from Amazon. They have a "Vine Voice" badge under their name and Vine reviews have something like "this is a Vine review" in green text. (I should mention that the version of Henry Poole that was offered was the SD, not the BD.)

I got invited into the program a few months ago. Apparently it's based on how much Amazon likes your reviews, but it's a bit cryptic. (Maybe someone there was reading the DVD Review Archive here. )

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Thanks, Aaron. Never heard of such a thing. Thanks for the explanation.

Makes ya wonder if Amazon has some kind of editorial board, eh? Well, it makes me wonder. It's probably well-known to others like yourself!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Amazon just dropped the price of Eagle Eye on Blu-ray to $19.99 and is offering a promotion where, if you buy it with another from a list of Paramount Blu-rays, you get $10 off. The list includes Tropic Thunder, Sweeney Todd and the Godfather trilogy.

Buy Eagle Eye and get $5 off Another DVD, or $10 off Another Blu-ray

Probably the best deal, if you don't already have either title, is Tropic Thunder, on which Amazon has also just dropped the price to $19.99.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Alternatively, if you prefer to purchase just Eagle Eye by itself, Best Buy will be selling it for $16.99 the week of 1/25 - 1/31, and Amazon is bound to match it.

I still think it's about $10 too expensive for these catalog titles. Anyhow, I have the Bourne HD DVDs so I won't be buying them no matter the price.

21 & Vantage Point will also be $16.99, along with Eagle Eye.

They'll also have 2/$35 deals on 300, The Departed, I Am Legend and Troy (or $19.99 individually).
