You have to remember that the special price doesn't show up until you place the item in your cart. The link below has this BRD at the bottom of the page.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I mentioned this in another thread, but Target has "Firefly" the complete series on sale for $49.99 this week, beating the best online price by almost $8.

EDIT: Looks like Amazon has updated their price to match that.

The items at the bottom of the Gold Box page, generally a few percentage points cheaper than the current regular price, are personalized based on your buying habits and/ or Wishlist. They're different for each person.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

No wonder I cannot find it.

I put it in my cart and it still listed at $37.49.

My Best Buy didn't have any of these tonight.

That's still an awesome price though. If I actually knew anyone to give this as a Christmas present, I woulda in a heartbeat. I paid ~$20 more for my WHV preorder and thought it was probably about as good as it'd get (for the forseeable future) at the time.

BTW, I started watching the set recently, and yeah, the PQ looks a bit disappointing in the earlier episodes, especially the first one. Not sure why it seems to improve as the (mini-)series moves along -- I'm a bit more than 1/2 way through now. But yeah, there seems to have been a good deal of DNR used in shots/scenes that one normally would expect a good deal of film grain. Really wish they had laid off on the DNR.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Now that I've become one of you, I got an email from Amazon that I'm many of you have that they have a up to 50% off sale on BD discs. Good till January 4th.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Meh. This Christmas has been a no-show as far as sales-on-good-BluRays goes, imo. Perhaps there just aren't enough titles out yet to make the sales happen to include films I want, or perhaps the retailers just don't see a reason to put BluRays on sales yet.

Maybe you already have everything you want?

Lets see, some folks got the Bonds for $6 or so each, in a bundle. Band of Brothers for $37, the Planet of the Apes movies in a box, or individual were on sale, for better than 50%. Amazon has a 50% off going on right now, nothing i need, but that doesnt mean nothing is on sale. Best Buy has some bundles on sale right now. Once again nothing i need, but a good price for some good titles!
I got the Ray Harryhausen Boxset for less than $45 on Amazon...yep, nothing on sale, nothing at all.

I didnt even put any thought into my list, but i promise, they had some sweet sales. Especially if you look online.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Hey Rick, I need all those titles since I just got into BD! (Except Bond) Well, don't need, just would like!

A boxset of Planet of the Apes is in Blu Ray? I'll have to find one of those. The Die Hard series I'd like to find for 50% off! I saw Bullitt is $13, one of my favorite McQueen films and Mustang fan that I am. Speed Racer is priced pretty low, but I was amazed T2 is $10.99. TDTESS the original is priced at $20.99 so that's a good deal too for a new release. And 2001: A Space Odyssey is priced quite well too. I'll be pulling the trigger soon!

Nelson, i didnt spring for the box of PotA, at the time all i wanted was the first 2. Then of course Amazon had to go and put them on sale, so i got Conquest, cause its a "directors cut" of sorts, more carnage, than the release version. I read the box is a bit of a pain too. Discs are hard to get out, or something. But the 3 apes movie i have look great, and the price was less than $20 for each. A good price for FOX Blu-ray discs.
I saw the Die Hard set on sale this Christmas too. I own the Blu set already, so the sale price didnt help me. But deals can be had.
2001, and Bullitt are great buys Nelson. Warner has some of the best prices of Blu-rays.

Enjoy!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Rick, the first 3 Ape films are the ones I usually watch too. The 5th one I had not seen in ages and I have the box set from the past! At Amazon's price for the set, it comes to $18 per film. I can't wait to see 2001 and Bullitt!

Will it ever end, of course not!

Opps, i meant Conquest has more carnage!
I will need to own them all on Blu at some point.

I thought you meant the carnage of spending more money for more discs!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I hate to whine, but I was pretty annoyed that Amazon made those Bond BDs their (normally spectacular) Gold Box deal of the day and only a few weeks later made them available for a LOT less.

I wouldn't have been so agitated by such moves had they also not removed their 30-day post order price guarantee. I got stung by that a couple times and has now kept me from pre-ordering anything from them.

But to bring us back on topic I did see that Amazon has How the West Was Won now on sale for $14.99 (57% off). Now that's a good deal!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

If you have a big enough screen, the "Smilebox" simulated Cinerama image is really stunning.

The movie is totally ridiculous, but in an endearingly old-fashioned way. I found it very entertaining.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

As somebody that has over 300 BRDs I have stopped preordering titles and instead checks Amazon or other etailers daily for price reductions and sales. Sure, I don't get new releases on their first day of release, but I save a lot of money over time getting the best deals possilble on my software purchases.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Yup, I don't buy any new releases any more either. I have enough of a backlog it doesn't make sense to me, there are VERY FEW movies I gotta have on release day/week. Which is why threads like this and sites like CAG, Hardforum, Slickdeals, Fatwallet and Techbargains are routine stops for me. If I haven't seen it, it's new to me no matter how long it's been on the market. This goes doubly so for videogames. I stocked up bigtime on the recent Steam Sale and at the GoGamer madness mails. I continue to thank my fellow HTFers for the great finds!

Same here. I've got enough other content (unopened DVDs, games, etc) to hold me over until I see a good sale on a title I'm interested in. Given my circumstances and the current trend in price reductions/sales I don't see any need to pre-order.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I was in Wal Mart today and they had some Lion's Gate Blu-rays on sale for $10.00. Off the top of my head, they had the first three Rambo movies, Saw, Saw II, Terminator 2, Stargate and Reservoir Dogs.

Thanks, Travis! tu:

Even though it hasn't gotten great reviews, I might pick up T2 for $10. What's the word on Reservoir Dogs? Anyone know?

By no means am I an AV expert but Reservoir Dogs looks pretty good to my eyes.

I don't have T2 either but I'm going to wait and see if the new Terminator movie (in May) brings a T2 re-release. Even if there isn't one, I'm sure there will be a sale on the current disc somewhere.

Die Hard Collection - $46.95 (today only)

Amazon Goldbox Deal

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

May be a mild YMMV deal, but my Costco had Tom Cruise 4 Pack -- MI 1-3 plus Top Gun regularly $70, but with instant $15 discount. With Amazon's upcoming B2G1 deal starting 1/6/2009 including all 3 MI movies this isn't exceptional, but it might be worth checking out if you want instant gratification.

Costco also had several other 4 packs at $64.99-69.99, but I couldn't tell if there were any discounts available. I love Costco, but their price labelling is a sore spot. Most of the time there is little indication of a deal available unless you happen to know ahead of time. Unfortunately most of the 4 packs I usually already had 1 or 2 of the discs. Jewel of the Nile, Romancing the Stone, Eragon, and Night at the Museum Pack was tempting at $65 but I already have Museum (Eragon was a disappointment as well) plus there was no way to tell what the register price was going to be so I left it on the rack.

Thanks for the heads up! We'll see if Amazon raises their prices when 12noon Jan 6 rolls around. But if these prices hold, there's a few good choices there.

Can you place several orders so as to avoid having Amazon use all the lowest price titles as the free ones? ...

Wait, is it buy 2, get a 3rd free?

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Buy 2, get the 3rd free (buy4, get 2 cheapest free, etc).

You can place as many orders as you'd like if past history is any indication.

Very few Buy1, get 1 free anymore.

I usually just make a list ahead of time grouping similar priced discs together then make as few orders as it takes. I think I found around 12-15 out of the list I wanted (or didn't already have) -- usually will end up with 6 once I sober up.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Same old stuff. Many of these are on sale right now, and you dont even have to buy stuff you dont really want to get a deal.

I was on Amazon.ca last night, i saw they have Kill Bill 1 and 2 on sale for $9.95 eaach, thats like 71% off. They also have Sin City, and From Dusk Til Dawn on sale again, for around $13. I got both of those the last time they had them on sale. Good discs, bare bones, but for under $15, its not a problem. It only cost me about $10 to have 2 discs shipped. So, even the Kill Bill can work out to a nice deal, if you didnt spring for them the last US Amazon sale.

If your already in Canada, its got to be even sweeter!
