I sure hope we see one around the holidays, but I'm not expecting it and tend to agree that they are gone now that the format "war" is also gone. Although I am anxious to see how things play out in Q4 with Warner's plan for aggressive pricing.

It is indeed dead. It hung around for a good, long time though.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

For those who hung on to their HD DVD players, Wal*Mart (in Canada @ least) is selling selected Warner titles for 2/$10. Titles include:
Swordfish
Letham Weapon
Troy (Director's Cut)
The Perfect Storm
The Invasion
Harry Potter 1-4
Out for Justice
A Scanner Darkly
Ocean's Thirteen
V for Vendetta*
Superman: The Movie*
Unforgiven*
The Road Warrior*
Music & Lyrics*

* Starred titles are the ones I picked up. I know I've forgotten some titles they had, but worth checking out.

Anyone seen deals like that at US Walmarts?

Nothing out my way yet.

I did do a quick check of walmart.com, and while they seem to have a pretty good selection of HD-DVD titles, the prices are nothing special.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

The Wal-mart near me only has about 30 total discs left. They had a whole bin 2 weeks ago.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Also picked up A Scanner Darkly, Battle of the Bulge and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Debating Jailhouse Rock and I'm going to keep checking other locations (I'm on the road a lot and within spitting distance of about 7 Wal-Marts).

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Is this a new "Buy 2, Get 1 Free Blu-ray" sale?

Amazon.com Movies & TV: Blu-ray 3-for-2 Sale

edit: Just tried to order 3 titles, but I didn´t get any discount.. Hmm.. Perhaps I´ll try again later on..

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

New sale, but pretty much the same old sale discs.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Dang it. I still get my hopes up when there is a new post to this thread, but the bargains have really dried up. I know I will be buying a lot of discs between now and Christmas. I just hope that there are a few decent deals during that time, but I doubt that they will qualify as full-fledged bargains.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Ridiculous. Isn't it illegal in some states to raise the prices of products when creating 3-for-2 or 2-for-1 sales? Ah well.

A few titles in there I'd like to see go on sale for real. But this fake sale = no sale.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

If I'm not mistaken this sale matches the Target sale for this week so it's really more price matching than a true sale.

I've been using the used dealers on half.com, but sometimes the cases arrive cracked so unless you have spares it is a risk that you won't save anything after the cost of an empty case is included.

Also, I worry about whether some of the used discs sold via half.com may be stolen, either from stores or from people's homes.

But for some titles that debuted with insanely high prices, like The Golden Compass, half.com was the only way to get some affordably.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

My neighbor rented The Golden Compass from Blockbuster and then simply paid to keep the rental disc. I don't know what they charged him, but it might've been less than "insanely high." You might look into it. At least you'd know whether the case was OK and that it wasn't stolen.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I saw today that Costco is carrying season 1 of Star Trek HD for $57.99

Considering how high the price was originally that’s not too bad for those who have an HD player.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Don't know how much of a sale it really is...but J&R.com is advertising a "Blu-ray Blowout!"

Yes, I ordered three titles about a week ago but they list them as back ordered. Are they still producing HD-DVDs?

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I doubt they're pressing new ones, and I imagine they didn't produce many copies of the ones released in '08. Still, DD did eventually manage to come through with most of the backordered Weinstein Company discs I ordered (Black Christmas being the exception {hey, it's the cost of a movie ticket, why not?}).
