Consolidated HD Bargain Thread! - Page 13

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Ya know...that reminds me, I meant to post in this week's Round-Up that amazon has a number of these themed 3-packs of Blu-ray discs that people might want to check out. they're not "great" deals, but definitely "not bad" deals.

One of them, for example, is a "War" bundle of Patton, Sand Pebbles & Longest Day for $65. There are also comedy, action, drama bundles, etc. They're not easy to find. I cannot find a page where they are all grouped together. There is a second "War" bundle for $60: Battle of Britain, Bridge Too Far & Flyboys.

I linked to a page with all the bundles in this month-old post, but that link doesn't seem to work anymore. Could be a sign those bundles may not last much longer.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I dunno, Scott. Although they might have been around for awhile (although I never saw them before), they were all listed as "new releases" with a June 24 release date over the weekend.

I nearly bought the bundle with Patton today. It is a pretty nice bundle of movies, but I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger with all the controversy surrounding the Patton and Longest Day discs.

But I'll wait and see what happens anyway as I have Batman Begins & Dark City on pre-order.

That's good to hear.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Similar to what they did with the National Treasure discs, Amazon has a 2-pack of the Kill Bill films for $39.99 (individually, they're $23.99 each).

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I picked up Coming to America, Flags of Our Fathers, and Hoosiers from the Amazon B2G1 sale. I was considering placing another order for Dreamgirls, Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, and the Ultimate Avengers Collection, but I'm on the fence.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not these animated Marvel Blu-ray Discs are 'worth it', particularly from a content perspective? Do they hold a candle to Bruce Timm's animated DC stuff (Batman, JLA, etc.), or am I just setting myself up for disappointment?

Thanks.

IMHO they're really not upto the caliber of the DCU animated features. They're worth a rental at most.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

i think they're pretty good but they are more the feel of the Ultimate Marvel-verse then the regular one.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Chris S and TonyD, thanks. I think I will hold-off for now and possibly give them a rental down the road.

J & R has "all its Blu-ray discs on sale!"

Doesn't look like the world's greatest sale to me...but you never know...

718 discs are included.

I looked. Not much going on there other than some prices being discounted more competitively vs Amazon, et al. Nothing like previous BD sales they had.

BTW, for anyone who typically shops J&R in person, you might like to know that the $15 DVD folks, who set up their stand just a block or so away around the corner on Fulton St a couple times a week, seem to be stocking newer BDs again and are also pricing them more competitively all between $15-20 (at least for the summer anyway). For instance, I picked up There Will Be Blood from them for $20 just the other day.

Disney/Buena Vista sale on Amazon:
Movies & TV: Disney Blu-ray Sale

Since the savings are again taken from the list price, not that special IMO.. Titles now $17.95-$20.95. I probably wait for the next "BOGO"-sale.

I'm afraid we'll be waiting a while for another BOGO sale. It seems that $18 is a good deal now a days.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I just went by a Dallas-area Fry's store at lunch and all their Paramount HD-DVDs were $9.99 (and Warner also). I already had most of them, but I picked up Face/Off, Flags of Our Fathers, Zodiac, and Batman Begins.
