The English Patient

12.99 at Amazon

11.99 at Best Buy

I had the good fortune to snag a copy at BB that was mis-tagged at $9.99.

The English Patient is $8.99 at Costco. From what I've read, it's likely mis-tagged $9.99 at all Best Buys.

Shakespeare in Love is $7.99 at Best Buy, plus there's a $2 off printable coupon (at a popular coupon site).

BN.com has The Treasure of the Sierra Madre for $9.99 before any coupon codes (several active now for 15 and 20% off).

Amazon has dropped its pre-order price on the Tarantino directed episode of CSI from a few years ago (Grave Digger) from $19.99 to $15.99.

I hope to have the review of this up tomorrow night.

The Looney Tunes numbered blu set is amazons deal of the day. Currently $35.

I'm still having a tough time justifying buying it.

Yeah, I bought the digibook. I don't have space for that box, especially if there are more volumes...and the future volumes will probably not be in the box sets.

I had no trouble justifying it at the price.

I'd buy the digibook at that price, but not the box of junk.

50% Off Sale Today at Criterion.com

Just received this e-mail:

Dear Criterion newsletter subscribers,

Happy Valentine’s Day! We’re having a holiday sale at Criterion.com, and we wanted you to know that it’s about to begin. Starting today at noon EST, all in-stock Blu-rays and DVDs will be 50% off the suggested retail price (SRP) at Criterion.com for twenty-four hours. Just enter the promotional code SWAK on your shopping cart page to apply the discount.

If you’re looking for ways to explore titles in the collection, check out a selection of great film noirs, samurai movies, and collector’s sets. And since it’s Oscar season, look at our array of Academy Award winners, from Hamlet to Howards End to The Last Emperor.

The code expires at noon tomorrow, so don’t delay!

With love and affection,
The Criterion Collection

^ Unfortunately they didn't anticipate the increased traffic to their website. It's almost completely unresponsive at this time.

Also be aware that this promotion is 50% of the **SRP**, making the total cost (if you don't spend $50+ and get free shipping) about the same as Amazon's everyday prices (if you get free shipping). So if you're only looking for 1 or 2 titles, this isn't much of a deal.

I was able to place an order, but their site is definitely overloaded. It took a lot of patience to get the order submitted. Ordered Godzilla, Traffic, and Bell de Jour for $19.97 each and free shipping. Amazon is $28 and $29 for the first two titles, and the third is not available as new directly from Amazon.

Yep, if you're ordering $50+ so you get free shipping it's a good deal. Like I said though, if you're only interested in 1 or 2 titles and have to pay for shipping it's not so great, and to be honest I find the "50% off" a little misleading on Criterion's part when they're taking that discount off of SRP and not the actual selling price of the item in their store. So for me, "50% off" translates to saving a whopping $3 on Rushmore over Amazon's price for a new copy.

I received a couple of emails from Criterion. Due to their site problems during this sale, they are extending the sale via the promo code REDO and including backordered titles. It is nice to see them acknowledge their issues and try to make it right for their customers.
The email I got seemed to indicate that it would only work on backordered titles.

I'm not sure if this is a mistake price at bestbuy.com (but it sure seems to be)...but they currently have a pre-order price on the blu set of Nurse Jackie: Season 3 for $19.99.

The DVD sets are listed at $19.99 at both amazon and bb.com and the blu set @ amazon is currently listed at $35.99!

So, for the first time ever, I have created an account at bb.com and will be doing an in-store pickup on this title.

The title is due this Tuesday...2-21-12.

Not a mistake price, apparently.

Research for this weekend's RoundUp confirms that Best Buy will, indeed, be advertising a $19.99 price for the DVD of Nurse Jackie: S3--as well as the Blu of Nurse Jackie: S3.  That's a great release week deal!

Amazon.co.uk has Cleopatra for £7.49 right now; might be a today only thing...
Thanks, John! I just placed my order.
Only $15.37 including shipping to the US.

Just a note on the UK Cleopatra for those who might be interested.  From the amazon.uk Cleopatra description:

Quote:
Please note this is a region B Blu-ray and will require a region B or region free Blu-ray player in order to play.

**EDIT:  While the above quote IS in the product information, the disc has been confirmed to be region-free.  Sorry for any confusion.

No, it's been confirmed as Region A, B & C.

You can plainly see the all region info on the back cover -

Sorry, John.  Gad your eyes are sharper than mine.

I was just repeating what I'm reading in their own product description.  I'll strike out the bad info in the earlier post.

I've been learning to not trust anything I read in Amazon's descriptions -- technical and otherwise -- concerning DVDs and Blu-rays.

No reason to apologise Mike (and that back cover pic is from another site); Amazon is a veritable mine of misinformation. smile.gif

Apocalypse Now Full Disclosure blu-ray is now $19.99 at BN.com. Seems it's been bouncing around this price point the last couple of days on bn.com and Amazon. Plenty of 20% off coupon codes out there, too.
