I'll take 'em both if they pay me $39.99.

If watching Con Air and Next had any benefit at all, it was learning that blind-buying Nicholas Cage movies is a very bad idea. I will rent these first regardless of the deal they dangle in front of me.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Maybe it's just me (it usually is! ) but $40 for the two BDs of the NT movies doesn't seem like a screamin' good deal. I realize we are talking about two new releases here....but, I would figure those would probably be two likely candidates for a Target BOGO for $30 (similar to what they ran last week).

Of course, I'm only a mild fan of the first NT film. Didn't see the second (which is why I'm furious they didn't include the Goofy HT short on the release!). Maybe I'd feel differently if the circumstances were different!

Don't get me wrong here Mike am just a little puzzled why you feel $20 a peice for two HD movies is not a good deal? Now to be honest I can not say that if the second movie is worth getting or not? As I have not even seen the movie so I am just wondering if I want it based on the fact that I have not seen it. Now the first National Treasure I will definantly purchase the day it is available. But the second movie might be a roll of the dice but it should be worth $20. I have a feeling the DVD will be at least 19.99 for National Treasure 2.

I dunno, Dave. I think you pretty much got the answer right in your question. I guess I feel that way, mostly, because I'm not a HUGE fan of the films (Mild fan of first one. Haven't seen second one.) It's an okay deal for fans of the films. Just not a "screamin' good deal" (whatever the heck that means!). To me it just seems like there'll be better deals not too far down the road on those BDs.

I might even be persuaded to pick 'em up at 2/$30!

===================================

For a little closure's sake: I got my BD of I Am Legend today...3-24-08. Just as predicted by the powers-that-be at amazon.com!

The order was placed 3-15. I Am Legend was released on 3-18. I used Super Saver Shipping. Not complaining. Just finishing our earlier discussion.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

i dont see this as a super deal either.

i just felt luke warm on it.

i like the first one but didnt feel an urge to own oth for $40.

for $30 or maye even $35 i might have bought.

i dont need to spend the extra on a movie i'm not sure about.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

OK just to be clear, I don't think it is a "super deal" either (maybe no one does?), but it is not bad for a new release and a new to Blu. And the great thing about ordering from Amazon is that if the deal gets better before release or even 30 days after, you will end up with the better deal (after an e-mail). If the somewhere else has a better offer or if I decide to be patient and wait for a "super deal," I will just cancel. The 2/$30 Target deals that some mentioned aren't much better than this for me. No tax, no shipping, no running to the store hoping they have in stock what I want, etc.

i wonder when amazon finally starts with the hd-dvd clearing. i'd like to make some nice bargains *hehe*

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I don't figure Amazon and DeepDiscount will likely do much more clearance-pricing than they already are. It's not like shelf space is a big deal for them, so there's little harm in keeping stuff in the warehouse until it sells out.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I was in one of the Borders stores near me and they were completely reworking their HD-media shelving.

Used to be you'd walk in and see a free-standing "wall" of shelving that was all new releases. One the back side of that was the BD & HD-DVD stock and then the subsequent walls would break down Comedy, Drama, etc.

When I was there the other day an employee cleared off the wall that faces the entrance and moved all the BD stock into that space. What was left of the HD-DVDs remained on the other side--still @ MSRP prices!

Seemed obvious that Borders thinks it's worthwhile to put its BD stock in a prominent place.

The Fox AvP/AvP-R Blu-ray Disc two-pack is currently $27.95 on Amazon.com. I figure that is a misprint, so you may want to jump on that one if you're interested. If you aren't interested, believe me, I will understand.

Amazon.com: AVP - Alien vs. Predator / Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (Unrated Two-Pack) [Blu-ray]: Movies & TV

That is a pretty decent deal, since it falls under the $15 per BD movie that many folks would accept as the upper limit on how much they'd be willing to pay; that, and the fact AvP-R is a new release makes this combo pack a good deal IMHO.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

No HD DVDs left at Best Buy for me.

With all the reatilers sending them back, I'm wondering what the studios are going to do with them. Is it going to be Atari ca. 1984 (crushing E.T. cartridges up and burying them in a landfill) or Atari ca. 1995 (selling them to a guy who stores them in a limestone cave and sells them to anyone who happens onto his website for $3 a pop).

They'll probably just keep them in a warehouse and fulfill orders from online shops as they come. But I'm hoping for the limestone cave.

It's a kind of unofficial BOGO deal for this two-pack since $27.95 is the normal price for one. Any film with Alien's and Predators getting splattered in Hi-Def is okay by me. Sold!

I have not seen the second, but damn, the first sucked HARD! I took my, then GF (now wife) to see it, and she had never seen an Alien or Predator movie. Darn near couldnt get her to watch Alien, or Predator after that stink-fest called AvP! IMO, of course.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

One local Wal-Mart (Red Deer) is clearing its HD DVD titles out @ 50% off. I'm going to check the Leduc location when I'm done with court tomorrow.

She must not have had too bad a reaction, Rick! She still married you!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Reminds me of the first movie I went to with my g/f (now wife): Blade Runner: The Director's Cut, but for slightly different reasons. My wife is not a SF fan at the best of times, but BR really disturbed her. She still married me, though, and bought me the BR Ultimate Edition for Christmas last year.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

For those Canadians looking for HD DVD deals, HMV, Futureshop and Best Buy are dumping a bunch of titles in the price of range of $5 - $8 each. Titles include Eastern Promises, Atonement, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Pan's Labyrinth, Lost in Translation, etc.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Just a heads up cause it seems it got buried earlier or you guys didn't give a rats ass..........I'll repeat it again.

Warner Bros is having a Buy 2, Get 1 free offer on Blu-Ray & HDDVD.

Here is the link. Use code WBRNHD at checkout. Also, this is strcitly a 2-1 deal. So don't load up the cart with 9 Blu-rays and expect to get 3 free. It won't happen. It's buy 2, get 1 free. So if you want multiple titles you will have to place separate orders.

Also free shipping on orders over $50

When did you see this? I checked my local BB and FS and there was no change. Still have to check out HMV though.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I was in HMV at Peel and Ste. Catherine and I found one title that I wanted at 6.99--Matador (the other was some Billy Bob Thorton title I can't recall that I didn't want). Pan's Labyrinth and Eastern Promises and Atonement were sold out. Will go hunting again tomorrow.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I went to BB and did not notice any change in pricing ether. They where still an average of $5 - $7 more than Fry's. I went to BB to see if they had Hidalgo and noticed that I Am Legand was $34.99 and I ended up getting it at Fry's for $23.99 instead. One thing I did notice at Frys was there where a large number of HD-DVD titles on sale for $9.99 - $14.99.
