Best Buy is running a nice sale this week. Some fantastic movies like Batman Begins, Superman: The Movie, Superman Returns, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Silence of the Lambs, and Independence Day are all available on Blu-ray for $15 or less.

Wow.  Heathers for $5.99, Corpse Bride for $7.99, Sunshine Cleaning for $8.99.

That's quite a list.  There's many of the usual suspects, but also some nice surprises.  That would be a good list for anyone with a new player who is in need of some media for it.

Thanks for the tip....I was able to backfill my collection with a few titles I had been needing, Terminator, T3, Fargo, and Never Say Never Again are all on the way.

Maybe this is old news and I'm late to the party, but Amazon is offering a 3-disc "Emerald Edition" of The Wizard of Oz, and selling it for $16.49. I wasn't aware that this packaging of Oz was on its way. The expected ship time is 1 to 3 weeks, but so be it. Right now it's sitting at number 1 on the sales ranking.

Can anyone confirm that the Amazon Emerald Edition has *normal* Blu-ray cases?

Here's a customer image from the Amazon page. One can only guess, but based on other illustrations and images, this is probably accurate. In other words: not a standard BD case.

Maybe somebody can chime-in, if this is an interior segment from the big boxed set.

That's a shot of the packaging from the boxed set. My 3-disc Emerald Edition came in a standard BD case with cardboard slipcover.

The question is when (or if) they'll ship it. We've all had our Deep Discount Delay stories.

With Hollywood Video going out of business, they are liquidating their stock.  If you are willing to take a chance on used blu-rays, they are offering a slew of them for $6.99:

Just deselect the DVD checkbox and hit the search button, and you'll get a selection of about 75 blu-rays to choose from.

I followed your instructions, Rob...and got a single page with just 25 BDs listed on it.  Maybe they're going that fast?!?

Are all HVs going out of business?  Can we expect in-store sales?

My local store is closing. There are a handful in Albuquerque, and the press release a few weeks back said only one would stay open.

I had a look the 1st day that they were running their GOoB sale, and was underwhelmed with the pricing on used BR and DVD. At the time, many of the recent Amazon sales on BR were better.

I do find it interesting that the web site stills says that used sales get a "Lifetime Guaranty". I guess as long as the corporate entity remains, they could theoretically honor the warranty. And in most cases, if the disc plays the 1st time, it will play forever. I don't think I have ever had a disc of any kind ever go bad.

Amazon has dropped the price on (500) Days of Summer and Jennifer's Body on Blu-ray to $12.99, matching the Target sale prices.
I (along with Matt on the official review) recommend (500) Days of Summer, especially at that price.

I was at my local Wal-Mart, briefly, tonight...and noticed another redesign of their software section.

For one thing, they probably had ten Blu-ray titles listed for $8.  They were titles you would suspect:  Near Dark, First Blood, Lords of War, etc.

They also had a number of the new Double Features Blu-ray combo sets.  I took notice of the Miss Congeniality/MC2 and Frantic/Presumed Innocent sets.  Each one was $19.96.

Non-HD...but they also had an entire side of a long aisle with $5 DVDs (rather than a bin).  Some newer titles, too:  Four Christmases.and some higher-profile titles likes Jaws and My Cousin Vinny.  Again...nothing startling...just a different way of presenting things, I guess.
