Does anyone know if VEI is releasing anything soon?

I know Riptide is scheduled for next week. But we haven't heard anymore news about upcoming releases. We know Gimme a Break! is on hold/not scheduled but what about Kate & Allie and any other shows they are working on. Are they a division of Universal? Their releases seem far and few. I'm guessing this is because they are a small company. Anyone know for sure?

Re: Does anyone know if VEI is releasing anything soon?

Stingray was supposed to be released by VEI in late January-early February and as we've passed that time, no word.

Drak Pack is showing as available and Dinky Dog is coming on the 19th. I am hoping they get the rights to Arthur! And the Square Knights of the Round Table from the same company.

Yeah, I remember seeing the news item about that on tsod.com and they even had the coverart posted at the VEI website. It has since been taken down. I wonder what's going on because plans for them have changed so frequently. They sent me an e-mail last year saying that both Gimme a Break! and Kate & Allie would receive follow-up sets and then they put GAB! on hold and we've heard nothing more concrete on K&A. And Stingray has gone MIA. I was just wondering if anyone had an inside scoop. So many of these companies now are getting lax in their releases.

Re: Does anyone know if VEI is releasing anything soon?

VEI is a small company, and I don't know about how DVD sales in Canada are doing. I know nothing about their financial situation. They did come through on Hardcastle and McCormick and Riptide, so they're no one and done operation.

I understand your frustration, and I'm frustrated too. In the case of Gimme a Break I would rather wait to make sure they can clear all the music and make sure the episodes are uncut than do a rush job. Although I imagine FremantleMedia, as holder of the copyrights, might want to split the bill.

Re: Does anyone know if VEI is releasing anything soon?

I got so impatient waiting for more GAB! that I acquired the complete series through a personal trade. If they don't release more Kate & Allie, I'll probably do the same. If they should release more GAB! in the future, I'll probably pick it up but it's no longer a priority.

The Hardcastle & Riptide sets are so worth owning. Anyone into 80's action/p.i. shows needs to pick these up. I hope VEI could somehow get the rights to do the 3-Season run's of Matt Houston, Spenser: For Hire and Vega$. It will probably take someone like that to get them out.

I'm still waiting for VEI to issue a corrected Best of Bizarre: Volume 7. It's now been seven months and still no word on when (if ever) they plan to fix the authoring error that renders the last half of the disc unplayable. True, I was able to return mine to the retailer, but you'd think they'd have this fixed by now, small company or not.

I'm another one who got soaked by them on Best of Bizarre, Volume 7. Trying to exchange the defective volume with amazon.ca is most likely futile, considering no replacements have been issued. I wish they would have issued a statement or something to announce their plan to fix this, but I haven't seen anything.
Not to mention volume 9 (possibly 8, can't remember) has a problem with the menu authoring as well.

Very sloppy work, VEI. Makes you wonder if they have anything resembling Quality Control going on over there. It also reminds me of the fiasco that happened with the company that put out the Wiseguy DVD's. The 4th volume has major authoring errors that rendered one episode unwatchable and several others with audio problems. They finally got around to fixing it then stopped releasing them right afterwards.

They've had problems with other releases. There was a strange delay with Season 2 of GAB! but some of us received it even though the new release date was about 2 months later. No explanation was ever given. Even now, with the indecision about the fate of GAB! Their explanation was vague. So we don't know what is holding it up. Maybe the company is so small that there isn't really anyone who has time to do this. It's the only explanation.

Re: Does anyone know if VEI is releasing anything soon?

With GAB! season 2 there were sound problems on some of the episodes. They sounded muffled, and those who got their sets in January (I got mine in October 2006) said so as well. That may have been Fremantle's fault. Some of the Family Feud episodes on BCI's set do not exactly look like first generation (and I'm being extremely generous), but that may be all that exists.

Then there's problems with edited episodes of Kate & Allie.

They issued a statement on TVShowsOnDVD.com, after I informed TVS about the defect. They contacted VEI, who sent them a statement, which said to return the defective disc to the retailer you bought it from for a refund, and await announcement of a "new" volume 7.

If I remember correctly, the defect was the entire second layer of the disc (or, episodes 6-10).

I returned by disc to CDPlus shortly after receiving it. You might want to contact Amazon first before sending it back. Hopefully, someone in customer service will already be aware of the problem. You should be able to search TVSoD for the news article to "back you up".

VEI recently re-launched their website (finally after 1 year) and today they posted on the site that they will be releasing Cagney & Lacey on DVD in 2012.

Also, in a recent email exchange I was told that they are looking to acquire the rights to Quincy, ME & McCloud as well as several other series from NBCUniversal.  Time for Ironside fans to start contacting VEI to let them know you want the remaining seasons released. Shout! Factory appears to have abandoned the show, having stated that they don't have the rights to the final 4 seasons and don't appear interested in acquiring them so I think this would be a great opportunity for VEI to step in and acquire the rights to seasons 5-8.

It appears VEI is getting ready to make a serious push into the Classic TV on DVD market by putting out a lot more series then they have in the past.  Another player on the scene means Classic TV on DVD is alive and well, hopefully they are able to acquire the rights to various stalled series from as many studios as they can and perhaps some series that have never been released?!  So far they have announced plans for a Diagnosis: Murder (Paramount) release, Cagney & Lacey (MGM) and possibly some more Universal series coming soon.

I hope there is a HEC RAMSEY in that list.

let us hope they can get their hands on the final season of black sheep squadron.

That would be very welcome if VEI could acquire the rights to Quincy, M.E. Would like them to release The Law & Harry McGraw.

Is it Fox who owns Cagney & Lacey?

Orion produced Cagney & Lacey, so it is under MGM's control. MGM and Fox's relationship only extends as far as distribution of catalog titles that MGM prepares for release themselves; if VEI can get Cagney & Lacey, I assume the MGM/Fox alliance must not be completely exclusive.

Now if only VEI could get the rest of Green Acres.
