Re: all in the family

Frankly, I'm thinking this show is dead in the water. We still have not seen the next season come out and I don't expect it anytime soon. A classic show like this really should have sold better than it did which is the fault of the people who didn't buy it. However, it also should have gotten a LOT more publicity as each season debuted on DVD. That's part of the problem with classic "adult" shows.

Re: all in the family

Any time I see a thread on ALL IN THE FAMILY bumped up I put my support in for wanting more seasons. At this particular time I would be happy even if they gave us "The Complete Series" (like they did with SANDORD AND SON) for an affordable price. I'd sell off my individual season sets and rebuy the whole thing if that's what it takes to get the whole show.

I thought you said you weren't a "one edit = no sale" type of person.

I have been very vocal in my opposition to edits of any kind on any episodes. Most of the exceptions I have made are for non-existence of uncut episodes, or when cuts were discovered after the fact.

I also wanna say that Sony is by far the worst company ever when it comes to including hour-long episodes in their original from on DVD. Other than the two Hello Larry crossover episodes on season 2's Diff'rent Strokes, parts 1 & 2 of The Hawaiian Connection on season 6's Sanford & Son, The Best of All in the Family on season 5 of that show, and pretty much every Seinfeld episode that originally aired as an hour-long episode, name one instance where Sony bothered to include hour-long episodes in their original form on DVD.

I don't even believe in the B.S. that the masters for the hour-long versions are lost and gone forever. They do exist, they're just too lazy to remaster any hour-long episodes that weren't included on any DVD that they have released to a current tape format (assuming that they haven't yet, of course).

Quite a turnaround from a company that in the 80s had the best record of all of them when it came to maximizing their revenues from all of their properties.

The recent Shout! Factory issue of Designing Women: S1 has an hour-long episode presented as (I assume) it originally aired. But that's a third party.

Yeah, that is strange when you think about it. I guess they laid off the wrong people or something!

My prediction with Sony is that to raise money, they'll make Blu-ray less exclusive and proprietary (i.e. pricey) and that it'll get cheaper for smaller dvd publishers to get in on that format. Therefore--more tv and movie titles will be on blu-ray from more publishers, and more consumers will make the switch to dvd. Maybe their financial problems will be the thing that pushes blu-ray into the mainstream. Just a thought!

BUT--I know how they can make about $25...by releasing the Jeffersons season 7 on dvd (because I would buy it...)

I'm finally working my way through Season 4 and I noticed that the last two episodes "Pay the Twenty Dollars" & "Mike's Graduation" are missing?  I don't remember hearing any stink about this when this set was released.   What Gives?

....and where the hell is the rest of the series.   This is was called the 4th greatest TV show of all time by TV Guide in a grouping that includes: I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Seinfeld, & The Sopranos all of which are available in their entirety!!!!

Those two episodes *are* in the S4 set where they should be.     Is this part of a repackaged version where you're saying they don't appear?

For some reason, they formatted the episode selections differently than all of the other discs up to this point including the first two discs of Season 4.  They had 4 episodes per screen.  This was has 3,3, & 2.  I didn't go to the last screen.  Screwy, but at least I have them all.
