Re: all in the family

Sorry, bhut if Sony's history with the series remains the same, don't expect Season 7 until the end of the year. Sony has been releasing the All in the Family sets at the rate of one season per year.

True. However, this means the next one would be due now - not at the end of the year.

Don't expect it before the third quarter of this year.

Re: all in the family

Sony really is the loser of tv-on-dvd.

Re: all in the family

Isn't that the truth. Since they're not doing extras (and of all the shows you'd think would get extras this would be one of them), they could have done 2 a year and be done with All in the Family AND Archie Bunker's Place by now, with time left to do Gloria and 704 Hauser!

Re: all in the family

Extras?!? Well, you'll just have to wait for extras when Sony decides to re-release the complete series in a gorgeous case with a special disc with incredible extras that you could only get if you repurchase the series again. This is merely speculation but given the track record of TV on DVD lately, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm really getting turned off on the whole industry of late. The only way they could build my confidence back up is if they adhere to the basic law of releasing extras in the last season to ensure that what the 'complete seasonists' get, we as loyal fans of the series, get.

That's all for now.

I feel the same way. I've already bought one complete set of a show that has been abandoned. And I've heard more and more tv fans are doing this now as they are fed up with the waiting. Can't say I blame them.

Not putting extras on the sets is pure laziness and trying to pinch out every cent.

Sony could have also released two seasons of The Jeffersons a year, and be done with that too.Sony, definitely is the worst studio for releasing(or not releasing,as is the case with so many of their shows)TV on DVD.

Re: all in the family

any news on aitf sets?

Re: all in the family

I'm guessing we might have seen the last of the AITF sets. If they were selling we'd probably have gotten another set by now.

Re: all in the family

Call Oprah. We would get a complete series set as the only way to purchase the last two seasons.

Re: all in the family

Well I'm definitely P.O.'d that 'The Jeffersons' is at a standstill. It's been what? Almost 2 years now since season 6 came out? Sony definitely dropped the ball on a lot of these classics.

Re: all in the family

Maybe Archie Bunker called Sony a bad name and maybe George Jefferson gave a Sony executive a bad cleaning and pressing job on his or her's suit. Yeah, that's gotta be it!

Re: all in the family

I wonder if the fact that no one was particularly anxious to buy S1 of "Archie Bunker's Place" is why Sony decided they might as well release nothing more of AITF either.

Re: all in the family

I bought (and liked) the Archie Bunker's Place set, but it made no sense to release that before the final three seasons of AITF. I think it would have sold better if they had waited.

Now both are at a standstill. I'd really like to see the ABP Place Season 2 episode where a certain character died (spoiler removed to protect the innocent)

Re: all in the family

God, that ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE set was just awful. I bought it blindly and couldn't even finish it, the episodes were so bad.

Re: all in the family

Just wanted to add that I'll buy all AitF and ABP releases. So get them out there Sony!!!

Thank you. And good night.

Re: all in the family

I must say I was surprised at the unenthusiastic response to ABP. I bought the set the day it came out and I love it! Plus I wanted to support a lesser known show so that Sony might release more of these rare shows. I thought the set was excellent. Nice design and the episodes were fun to watch. Plus the transfers were crystal clear. I was hoping they would do the same for Gloria.

Re: all in the family

Archies Place should have NEVER....NEVER....NEVER been brought to DVD before All in the Family had had its final run. And I mean through its final SEASON. That move was absolutely feeble-minded! I felt that way the very second I saw it in upcoming releases on TV Shows On Dvd. Why? Why? Why? Sometimes I think studioes have no insight or foresight. I don't know if they could find a pumpkin on Halloween.

If All In The Family didn't sell, why bring out a worse show (a much worse show) to replace it? Maybe Dorothy could bring back some answers the next time she returns from Oz.

Because a first season set will generally sell better than a consistently low selling series on its seventh or eighth set.

Re: all in the family

Sadly, I just heard from a contact at Sony that there are (currently) no plans for any more AITF. I'm bummed.

Re: all in the family

Yeah--I figure shows won't sell very well once they get all the way to Season 7--which is where AITF and the Jeffersons both would have to start up. And that logic begs the question why Paramount does 1/2 season sets--making there be twice as many sets in the long run. I mean, if season 7 isn't going to sell, would season 4 1/2? Paramount is silly---

Re: all in the family

S7 was really the last season of AITF I wanted to see get out since it has the hiliarious episode where Mike breaks Archie's chair. It's too bad that had to stall out but at least we got the bulk of what made it a classic.

Re: all in the family

I so wanted to get S7 and S8. Sigh.

Maybe when the economy picks up again they'll decide to test the waters with S7. I can always hope.

Re: all in the family

If it weren't for the fact that Sony is inching forward with "Barney Miller" they would get my vote for worst studio doing TV on DVD at the moment. I suppose the "Partridge Family" fans are glad they fast-tracked out the last two seasons there too.

Ya gotta love the companies' crazy logic like that. I don't think ABP did very well.

I want the remaining seasons of AITF up to when Mike and Gloria leave.

Well that is a bummer. I really wanted the last three seasons. Oh well. Maybe someday.

Re: all in the family

I was tempted to buy ABP but then I heard part 1 of the premiere was cut, when it can be viewed uncut at the Paley Center for Media. Typical of Sony.

I think Sony's pretty much done with TV on DVD. The fact that they let Shout! Factory have "Designing Women", which was a big hit, speaks volumes.

One thing that has interested me about this show is this: It is well-established that Norman Lear wanted out by 1978 (and he even took a back seat in the actual production of shows yet continued to head Tandem/TAT/Embassy until 1985). There was a "Farewell to the Family" People Magazine cover, the last episode was filmed as a finale, and a wrap party at the end. But CBS just wouldn't let go. They really must have sweetened the pot to get a ninth season, and they abandoned the live audience (switching from the "recorded on tape before a live audience" end spiel to "shown to an audience for live responses").

Then five years later, Archie Bunker's Place ends after four years because CBS cancels it, while it still ranks in the Nielsen Top 25. But Carroll O'Connor and Norman Lear (as discussed in an early September 1983 TV Guide) wanted to do a fifth season, which would have been the last.

Re: all in the family

I am hopeful that the remaining seasons of All in the Family will be released. Like many people, I am spending my money these days with greater discretion. I'd buy a new season of AitF, which is one a the few shows repeat viewing actually enhances, before I'd "blow" that cash in a decent restaurant on a single meal. The economy is bad, but TV on DVD doesn't have to suffer.

Sony, if you are listening, please consider releasing another season of this wonderful show that is truly dear to many of us.
