Any fan of Belinda Carlisle on this forum?

I only have one Belinda Carlisle CD, "Her Greatest Hits". I have been playing the CD-R of this title continuosly in my car for the week and I can't stop. Very well-crafted pop songs from start to finish. I am looking to get her individual albums to go beyond the hits. I can't believe she wasn't a bigger star. I currently have "Live Your Life Be Free" on repeat. Also enjoying "Leave a Light On", which featured a slide guitar solo by some guy named George Harrison from some obscure band called The Beatles.

Any fan of Belinda Carlisle on this forum?

I thought she was really hot back when I was a kid during the "Heaven On Earth" days, but that's about it.

I have the same CD you have, if the case has a real girly design. I like the hits, but haven't bothered to listen to the others. They all take me back to high school, but my favorites are probably Circle in the Sand and Mad About You.

As Ron mentioned, she was tres hot. Actually, she still is. I saw her with the Go-Gos about two years ago, and they performed their debut album in its entirety. Jane is really cute, too, and she is a nerd like we are with her Star Wars tees.

There have long been rumours about Belinda or maybe another one of the Gos being featured on a home movie with a boy groupie. Ah, to have been just a few years older back then. I came close to having back stage passes from another act at the show from a couple of years ago. I wonder if the Gos still do the groupie thing.

I remember she had a Playboy spread about the same time as her solo album was coming out, she looks as great as she sings! I'm going to go have to dig that issue up.

Well, it's not a rumor. The tape does exist. I think they played some of it on the Go-Go's "Behind the Music" It features a completely doped out Belinda ranting about masturbation and I think they have one of their roadies or male groupies jerking off on camera. But that's all I ever saw.

Not much of a listener of her music, but I used to think she was hot. I do remember her unfortunately putting on some significant weight at some point though. Never saw the Playboy spread, but I'm now curious. If anyone has any links to where you could find it, PM me.

+1 I wasn't exactly a kid then, but otherwise--I agree.

Oh, and she has a great voice (though I was indifferent to most of her music).

I saw that episode of "Behind the Music" as well. Basically, the public image of the Go Go's was completely opposite of reality. For the girls of the Go Go's, it was sex (with both genders according to Belinda), drugs and rock 'n roll as well.

Just in case anyone wants to know, the Go Go's are currently on tour and they will be playing the Superdome tomorrow in New Orleans.

I know Jane is bi, but that went for Belinda as well? Da-a-mn. By the way, go to Jane's site and look at every page for some sidebar cosplay pictures. She looks great in costume.

Based partly on lust, partly on liking her songs, I was a pretty big fan in the late 80s and early 90s. Her first three albums, while definitely sounding like products of their time, are great slices of pop. I think Runaway Horses is criminally underrated - a lot of growth on that one, and a really nice variety of songs.

After that, the quality of her work, IMNSHO, precipitously dropped. The next three CDs each only had a couple of songs that really stuck with you after hearing them. I think part of that is that she just lost interest - she was married, living overseas, and raising a family. I think Big Scary Animal from Real is a great song, but the rest of the CD is mostly forgettable.

And I've seen the Playboy pics. I don't like them. They're way too Photoshopped/Airbrushed for my tastes. If I get a Belinda itch, I'll use YouTube to scratch it; I think the videos for Heaven Is A Place On Earth and I Feel the Magic feature her at her hottest.

Post Script: I've always thought Jane was quite the sexy cutie, too, but heard she was full out gay, not bi.

I'm far from an expert on her life, but the sometimes reliable/sometimes not wiki lists her as bisexual and has this as a trivia item:

The bit about Jane co-writing "Our Lips Are Sealed" with her then boyfriend was mentioned in the "Behind the Music" episode for the Go Go's

Btw, Jane's lone Top 10 single, "Rush Hour", is excellent. There's a very recent remix that updated the sound. Still, the song can still on its own and it's as good as any single from Belinda.

I keep reading "Big Scary Animal" being an excellent single....I need to hear this given my sole Belinda Carlisle CD doesn't include that song.

Did you guys know that the video of "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" was directed by Diane Keaton? Yes, THAT Diane Keaton.

As for Belinda's pics in Playboy....I think she's much sexier in her videos.

I've been a fan of Belinda's work for a long time now. She made some great tunes. I really like the song "I Get Weak". It's a great description of how love can engulf you if it's true. "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and "Circle In The Sand" are great tracks also. I picked up "Live Your Life Be Free" from the cut-out bin at the late great Media Play back in the late 90s and I thought it was one of the best albums of that decade. "Half The World" is a sad ballad but, to paraphrase the great Butters Stotch, it's a beautiful sadness.

As for Jane Wiedlin, she's great, too. "Inside A Dream" is an amazing song. I often envision montages of 80s movies in my head, and when I say that, I mean a series of clips of 80s movies. This song oftentimes accompanies it. Of course, there are other songs I think of, like "Red Rain" by Peter Gabriel, "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer, "Gravity" by Michael Sembello...

I didn't know that was Jane. Clue is one of my favorite rainy day movies. As for Belinda, nice voice but not one of my favorite artists. Probably haven't given her much of a chance. I do seem to be able to watch the entire "Vacation" video for some reason .

Check out YouTube and other places for Belinda's videos. She's WAY hotter in "I Feel the Magic" and "Heaven Is A Place On Earth."

She must have had one of those "eating disorders," cause she used to be kinda chubby while with the Go-Go's (I believe the above picture is while she was being "solo").

I have two of her songs on my iPod - my shuffle holds only 250-odd songs, and I use two of those positions for Belinda: Heaven Is A Place On Earth and Vacation (the latter is The Go-Go's, but so what).
