Are Sinclair Audio Speakers White Van?

I recall an earlier post, possibly not on this forum that included Sinclair Audio Speakers as White Van and garbage. I went to a specialty store the other day and they had some Sinclair speakers from the Brighton Line - towers, bookshelfs, centers, in the demo room and they sounded at least to my somewhat untrained ear quite good. Can anyone comment on this? the towers ranged from about 700-1200 dollars. Is this way beyond what they are worth?

Re: Are Sinclair Audio Speakers White Van?

The SoundsAround store here in Calgary also sells Sinclair Audio and I wondered the same thing - are they legit speakers? Based on the info on their website and the review from TorontoHifi, it would seem that they are not White Van speakers.

But, my brother and I were burned before by the Nuance scam* at Soundsaround in the past and so I'm very hesitant to consider speakers now from a speaker company that does not have a solid, long standing reputation (especially if they're sold by Soundsaround).

My advice would be to give the Sinclair Audio speakers a couple auditions, but also compare them with other speakers out there. I've come to learn about many great speaker companies here on the forum (i.e. SVS,av123) that I would not have known about before or thought were any good, so the Sinclair Audio speakers might be good speakers but they might also be hyped crap like Nuance. That's the risk you take when going with a speaker company that you don't know much about.

*For those not aware of the Nuance scam, Nuance is a Canadian made speaker line where retailers have very controlled demos for you, using Q-sound to make you think that the speakers are incredible, when it is really not the speaker but the way the sound was recorded that makes it sound so good. The company also refuses to publish specs on their speakers (a la Bose) since so many companies use specifications to trick the consumer and therefore it's better to not give them any at all Oh, and they don't have a list price, so the consumer has no idea how good a deal he's getting when the dealer gives him a "special price for today only".

Re: Are Sinclair Audio Speakers White Van?

I bought the set of Sinclair Brightons that the editor of Canada Hifi Magazine reviewed. He liked them so much, he bought them. He kept them as his reference speakers.

They really are fabulous speakers, they really come to life with my Yamaha 6190.

I've owned some great speakers (B&W, Klipsch, Wharfedale, etc. so I think I know what great sound (for under $3000) should be.

Centre Hifi in Mississauga is about the only place I've seen them being sold.
BTW, I snapped my set up for $800 cash for the 5 speakers + sub, cheaper than the price of a pair of 3600's.

Re: Are Sinclair Audio Speakers White Van?

I've bought a pair of Sinclair Brighton's and centre channel this past December. They do sound very good. In the store I listened to them against a comparable set of Mission's, JBL's and Infinity's and they stood up very well. Now I need to upgrade my bottom of the line Sony receiver with something better to get the sound out of them.

I'm personally looking at the new Onkyo True HD receivers.

Hi. The price you quote for those Sinclairs sonds extremely low, much lower than what I paid. If I may ask, when did you buy them and what model/series are they? Are your Brighton's the SB3600s or the new BT36. I bought a set of the new BT36's with the older B250 centre, this past Dec. 07 and I thought I was getting a deal on them for just about the price you quote for the whole set.

Re: Are Sinclair Audio Speakers White Van?

The retail price on those speakers were $2499.
I paid $800 because they were 1 yr old used.

I bought them used, from the guy who reviewed them from that magazine.
Thats why they were $800, a real steal !

I saw them new, for about $2500 for the 5.1 setup.
