Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Upcoming March 31 releases from Alpha Video include additional volumes of shows like "Ozzie & Harriet," "Milton Berle," "Racket Squad," "Roy Rogers," "Annie Oakley," and "Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans," and a few "new" shows to Alpha's collection of vintage TV shows:

The Lone Wolf: The Lone Wolf - Television on DVD Starring Louis Hayward; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

and

Man Behind the Badge: Man Behind The Badge - Television on DVD (1955) Starring Charles Bickford; Dabbs Greer; Joyce Holden; Frank Jenks; Aaron Spelling & Roy Barcroft; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

Both of these series had some episodes included on Mill Creek's "Best of TV Detectives" so it's possible that there will be some episode duplication.

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

I'm currently working through Golden Age Theater and Golden Age of Television, which are really good. Excited about The Lone Wolf as I've wanted to see that for ages.

A few episodes of "The Lone Wolf" are currently available on Mill Creek's "Best of TV Detectives."

Don't know at this time as to whether or not there will be any episode duplication.

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Here are the April 28th upcoming TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video:

Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, vol. 11 (4 episodes): Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet, Volume 11 - Television on DVD Starring Ozzie Nelson; Harriet Nelson; David Nelson & Ricky Nelson; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

Federal Men a/k/a Treasury Men in Action, vol. 5 (4 episodes): Federal Men, Volume 5 - Television on DVD (1954) Starring Walter Greaza; Directed by Leigh Jason & Will Jason; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

Roy Rogers Show, vol. 14 (4 episodes): Roy Rogers With Dale Evans, Volume 14 - Television on DVD Starring Roy Rogers; Dale Evans & Pat Brady; Directed by Donald McDougall & Robert G. Walker; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

Code 3 (4 episodes): Code 3 - Television on DVD (1957) Starring Richard Travis; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

I'm particularly interested in "Code 3" since it appeared on Mill Creek's "Best of TV Detectives" compilation last year. "Code 3" had also been rumored for an official release by Infinity Entertainment, but that has not yet come to fruition. Perhaps this stand alone release will create some interest in the series.

Alpha is also repackaging a number of its previous TV-on-DVD releases in value priced 10 DVD sets, each for $9.98 plus shipping. Details here:

*** Update ***

It appears that Alpha will not be issuing "The Lone Wolf" later this month which I mentioned in post #32. The link indicates that the "product is no longer available." They do offer a single episode from the series on this TV Detectives compilation:

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Bob, is there any way of knowing if these four episode compilations of Ozzie and Harriet are repeats of the episodes in the 100 episode Mill Creek set? I loved that set and would be happy to pick up additional episodes, but don't really want to repeat them.

Doug, although the new volume 11 doesn't list episode titles yet, the previous 10 volumes do. Trouble is that you'll have to click on each one and make your own notes. I suggest that you do a "copy & paste," noting which 4 episodes appear on which volumes. That's probably the easiest way for you to make a list and then go back and compare with other O&H collections. To get started, try this link (there are a few other collections, including the ones from Shout! in this listing):

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Vintage TV. It's almost scary! How about the vintage folks (OF COURSE NONE OF US ARE) who remember these shows? Eve Arden. Isn't she OUR MISS BROOKS of radio (BEFORE TV). rEMEMBER rICHARD CRENNA? Grampa McCoy's grandson. Well, his baby voice played a student on Our Miss Brooks radio. I can really get into this old time stuff, but before I bore the rest of you I'll give you my modest opinion of this ventage tv on dvd.

I hope I'm wrong here....so read me correctly...I said wrong! But from past experience on old time shows on dvd I found the quality poor and many...I said many...not all...of the shows were trimmed. Now, who's going to buy them first? Now, don't be shy. Someone has to go first. Personally, I wait a bit and read other peoples reviews. I place a lot of trust in what you folks say. We're here to help one another. Now, doesn't that put a charge into your (and my) morning vitamins.

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Alpha has released a couple of public domain episodes of "Our Miss Brooks" but they are unrestored.

The Life Of Riley / Our Miss Brooks - Television on DVD (2007) Starring William Bendix & Eve Arden; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

The company has also released four episodes of "The Eve Arden Show" (again, unrestored episodes).

The Eve Arden Show, Volume 1 - Television on DVD (1957) Starring Eve Arden; George Howell & Frances Bavier; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

And, finally, MPI is planning a release of Eve Arden's 1960s comedy "The Mothers-in-Law" later this year.

You might also want to check the sets against this online episode guide.

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

Repeating episodes on the public domain sets is not always a bad thing, since they sometimes are using different prints from various collector sources.

So the duplicates might turn out to be more complete: uncut, season correct openings, original commercials, in color, or even better looking. Of course it could go the other way too!

As far as I am concerned, unless or until the major DVD outfits release official season sets of these vintage shows, I will take what I can get.

Re: Upcoming Vintage TV-on-DVD releases from Alpha Video

I came across this upcoming, June 30 release from Alpha Video and is part of their "Lost TV Shows" series . . .

Lost TV Shows of the 50s (Sea Hunt / Beach Patrol / Alarm / Front Page Detective / Assignment Mexico) - Television on DVD Starring Lloyd Bridges & Peggy Castle; Alpha Video : OLDIES.com

Episode titles aren't listed but I'm fairly certain the "Sea Hunt" episode will be "Mark of the Octopus" which has appeared on at least three compilations of public domain TV episodes of which I am aware. Could "Beach Patrol" be an early version of "Baywatch?"

*** Update *** Other TV shows that I've discovered for a June 30 release . . .

Decoy (Beverly Garland), vol. 4: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/5845D.html

Racket Squad (Reed Hadley), vol. 6: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/5844D.html

Adventures of Robin Hood (Richard Greene), vol. 19: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/5838D.html

Lost Crime Shows (includes an episode from "Boston Blackie"), vol. 2: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/5833D.html
