If you have an adjacent space which you can use, such as a storage room, an Infinite Baffle sub is the way to go if you can do some basic woodwork. Read about the concept at
The Cult Of The Infinitely Baffled. I built an IB sub into my basement movie room about 3 years ago or so, my total cost was very low since I already had an amp. It's the best piece of home theater gear ever. An Infinite Baffle subwoofer will give you many orders of magnitude better performance than an "on-wall" or "in-wall" solution for your subwoofer needs.
As far as in-wall/in-ceiling speakers, there are many options, from cheapos to medium price to very high end stuff. In my house I have some inexpensive in-ceiling speakers from Parts Express as well as some very nice lower end models from Proficient Audio which sound much better than I had expected they would. Both brands recommended depending on your budget, and there are many other great offerings from other companies which could work for you.
