Remove the soldering

Hi, enjoyed the detailed explanation above on brazing. I have a question going in the reverse direction. How do you unsolder or unbraze a silver-soldered joint between stainless steel and brass without destroying optical components housed within?

Re: Remove the soldering

I think it will be with great difficulty.

You just need heat to melt the solder. If nearby or enclosed components can't take the heat, they will be damaged. Even soldering in the first place has to be done carefully and can result in heat damage.

It may be possible to disassemble the parts using other means such as a very fine grinding wheel or rotary file or drill. These, too, generate heat so you have to proceed slowly and let the work cool down every so often.
