Question about restoring Apple Mail

Thread Starter
I did a complete format of my computer desktop today -- just
to get TIGER out and do a clean install of LEOPARD.

I had thought I successfully backed up my Apple Mail and all the
mailboxes I had set up. The program I used was a DUD!

Anyhow, I still have the backup I made with SUPERDUPER.

Is there a directory I could drag over that has all my mailboxes
and old mail messages intact?

I even have a copy of all my mail on my laptop which I could
backup and restore to the desktop if there was a way to do it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Question about restoring Apple Mail

Ron, drag the Mail folder in your backup drive (/Users/repstein/Library/Mail) to the corresponding location on your Mac. This copies over all of your folders and messages. You also will want to drag the plist file, which contains all of your mail account info onto the Mac. It's located at /Users/repstein/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Re: Question about restoring Apple Mail

Look in the application support folder (same directory) for your bookmarks and other app related items.
Drag and drop as before and reboot or log out/in

Michael gave you good info.

Re: Question about restoring Apple Mail

That information was absolute gold!

Amazing how they make these backup programs for
Mac that ain't worth a shit, but with a little know-how
you can easily drag backups into the new installs.

BTW, my format went beautifully! Just hit the "C" key
during bootup and with the Leopard disc in the drive, I was
able to go to install options and have my hard drive formatted
with a clean install of the OS. Took under 20 minutes!

Re: Question about restoring Apple Mail

Yep - SuperDuper is solid.

Time Machine is interesting, but still in it's rookie season.
