I have been told I need to set my main speakers to "small". How do you do this on the 705? I have looked under audio options, etc. and there is no place that I can find to select "small" speakers. Under calibration I see where I can select a specific Hz for each set of speakers. Is this where I choose small? If yes, what Hz would I choose? Would I do the same for the center channel? I have a amplifier subwooer and was told by setting the main speakers to "small" it will send all the bass notes to the sub.

Yes, you do it by setting a crossover frequency (Hz) for the speakers. What you set depends mainly on your speakers, but you don't say what they are.

I just went through this myself... My front speakers came out right after running Audessey, but I did play with the settings on the surrounds. As stated above, if you can post what speakers you are using, we can give you more info.

Re: Can anyone with Onkyo TX-SR 705 answer this question
Hope y'all don't mind, but I have some side questions here regarding this receiver.Does it support uncompressed PCM 5.1 via its HDMI connection? If so, can it downmix into some sort of phantom center mode w/out subwoofer? What about the same for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA? And can all that be done via its preamp-out also?
Thanks.

Re: Can anyone with Onkyo TX-SR 705 answer this question
Since I first made this post I had a computer malfunction. I'm back on line and I hope someone can help me get the proper settings for my main and center channel speakers on the Onkyo TX-SR705. Per the previous post the SR705 does not allow a setting for "small". What HZ should I set my 705 main and center in order to set them to "small"? Also, will this ensure the most from my subwoofer? Here is what I have:
Main: NHT SB1 with response of 68Hz-22kHz, Sensitivity of 86dB/2.83v, and Impedence of 8 ohm
Center: NHT SC2 same as above
Subwoofer and amplifier: continously variable low pass between 35-150Hz, selectable high pass at 50, 75, and 110 Hz
Total novice looking for help.
Thanks,

No responses yet. Anyone have any knowledge of what to set the main speaker frequency on my 705 after reading the specs on my speakers? There were a couple of replys that said they could help if I would give the info on my speakers.

Re: Can anyone with Onkyo TX-SR 705 answer this question
I don't think I should reply since I screwed up the first time, but since no one else has yet...Apparently Onkyo now uses "full range" instead of "large" and individual x-over settings instead of "small" (even though on page 77, Onkyo still refers to a "small" setting). All this does is remove a step in the setup procedure but I wonder why this wasn't the standard way of doing things right from the start. Anyway, with your speakers going to 68hz, what I would do is set the x-over to 90 (for both the mains and the center) if you listen at moderate volumes or 100 if you like to crank it up. This is because a x-over setting is a slope and not a point. Some lower frequencies will find their way thru. 80 is the usual recommendation but I would only use that if the speakers went well below 60. Just my opinion, other may feel differently. As others have said in other threads, "let the sub do what it was designed to do". As for the subs settings, I'll let someone with more knowledge about them than I handle that. Hope this at least get the ball rolling again.Re: Can anyone with Onkyo TX-SR 705 answer this question
Gene C, thanks for the reply. I'll try this when I get home. Rigtht now my sub just isn't cranking it out like it did with my old reciver. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for my sub settings?
