Newb needs help!!!

I'm trying to help out by brother in law with setting up his new house. Drywall is not up yet, and basically he wants the following:
1)Mount his plasma on the wall with no connections showing.
2)Have his 2 B&W towers flanking the tv
3)Have all of his components in the basement:
*Sat/Cable box
*Receiver
*DVD
I'm trying to find the best way to run everything from the basement to the tv on the main floor...and find a good way to control everything remotely as well. I've tried to look into ir setups and need some help determining what would work best.

Re: Newb needs help!!!

The Wired Home IR hub along with the associated emitters and targets is the best way to send the IR signals. A Harmony remote is the best way to control everything. No need to remember what receiver and TV settings need to be. Set it up once and just press the appropriate activity button on the remote. If you get a Harmony 890, you don't even need the Wired Home kit because it is RF to the a control module which will then send the IR signals to the equipment.

As for sending the video/audio to the listening room. There is no other choice except running cables. Speaker, and video. Make sure they are all in-wall rated cables. If you go with component video, then you can easily make your own cables from RG-59 coax. Monoprice has long HDMI cables that are not very expensive. Lowes and Home Depot have in-wall speaker wire.
