Franks Capra's Why We Fight (WWII Series)

I just ordered the box set from Delta Entertainment from Amazon Canada and while it probably would've been a better idea to post this question prior to ordering, I just want to know if this is "the one" to buy?

Several public domain companies have put this series out on DVD, including Good Times who have released their collection as "The Complete Series".

I opted for the Delta release strangely enough, because it was more expensive. I'm just weary of cheapo p.d. product and this one seemed to be packaged a lot nicer and even included a bonus WWII Capra short: "The Negro Soldier".

Yet all comments I've read on forums to date, have been in referance to the "other" set. Why We Fight: The Complete Series. Does one present the films in better quality than the other?

Am I safe with my purchase, as there is still time to cancel the order...?

For referance sake, this is the set that I purchased and after reviewing the content of both collections, did so largely because of the superior packaging and higher price (approx. five to ten bucks more); I figured that somehow might've translated to higher quality or production values:

Can anyone attest?

I haven't seen the Delta WWF, but have both the Madacy and Goodtimes versions.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY THE EXECRABLE MADACY VERSION.

The Goodtimes version is not at all bad. It certainly is serviceable.

Judging by the Delta version of This Is The Army, you may have screwed the pootch on this one. Just my guess, but the Goodtimes is probably better thana the Delta.

Uh oh... I didn't even realize they had a version of that.

What was wrong with the Delta's release of This Is The Army?

Have you seen any of the other p.d. releases to compare?

Has ANYONE seen Delta's Why We Fight series?? How bad can the pq possibly be for the comparable price between both sets?

Re: Franks Capra's Why We Fight (WWII Series)

Delta's release of This Is The Army is awful. The sound is passable, but the picture quality is bad. For a technicolor major production, the PQ stinks. The colors are washed out and the grain looks like a cheap bootleg VHS copy. No, I haven't seen any other copies of TITA yet. I would really like a "major studio" release of TITA even though it's not exactly PC.

Marco, why don't you get both the Delta and Goodtimes and then post a review here?

Well if you guys would like to chip in and fund it, sure!

But I'm not so rich that I could afford to purchase two sets simultaneously of the exact same film series just for comparison sake.

Hopefully Delta's source material for the Why We Fight series serves better than TITA so I don't end up regretting the impulse buy...

D'oh!

Have you seen the Delta set Patrick and if not, how do you know that GoodTimes in the best?

Marco, what did you end up doing regarding this set? I'm interested after watching the series off of Internet Archive. How'd it turn out?
