Is Toshiba A2 Region Free for Standard DVD too?

I'd appreciate some feedback about this. I know my Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player is region free for HD-DVD's but is it also region free for standard DVD's? I'd like to get some region 2 DVD's so I'm wondering if they will play in my A2.

I'm 99% sure it's R1 for SDs, according to reviews. I've seen some mention of hacks, but nothing concrete. I have a few R2 dvds, so maybe I'll pop one in my A2 just to confirm.

I am sure it is R1 only for DVD if the player is being sold in the US, otherwise Toshiba would be breaking the DVD logo rquirements and it would be illegal for them to do so.

AFAIK, none of the DVD portions of current HD DVD and Blu ray players are region free (not even those players sold in Asian countries, but I'm not sure about Europe tho'). And you will need a dedicated region free DVD player for those non-R1 discs.
