Here are the details from thedigitalbits.com

Fox has delayed Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World on Blu-ray from 2/5 until June, at which time it will be part of a Father's Day Blu-ray promotion set to include Mrs. Doubtfire, Patton, The Longest Day, The Sand Pebbles, A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Britain among other titles.

That's a pity...

But Patton in high-def...woo hoo! (Assuming that one isn't delayed too).

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

Whatta hell? Does this really mean that e.g. "Patton", "The Longest Day", "The Sand Pebbles", "A Bridge Too Far" and "Battle of Britain" are all coming in HD??

AWESOME NEWS! (if that´s the case)

I couldn´t care less if "Master and Commander" is delayed, this is some selection for the WW2-buff like myself..

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

Mrs. Doubtfire in a Father's Day promotion? I looked at that list, and I said to my wife, "Pick the one that doesn't fit".

Anyway, another delay for Master and Commander is disappointing indeed. If all seven of those titles make it to market, I will be pleasantly surprised. I am definitely down for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Patton. I would consider blind-buying The Longest Day, The Sand Pebbles, A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Britain, but certainly not a Fox/MGM's current catalog title MSRP.

I was really looking forward to Master and Commander. I guess I'm still looking forward, only now I have to look a little farther.

I'll believe that 'Master and Commander' has been released, when I'm peeling the cellophane off the case.

Oh, I cannot wait for Patton in high def. My favorite movie of all time.

Hopefully such a promotion includes a drop in MSRP.

My sentiments exactly. I'm not sure I can imagine the audio sounding any better than it does on the DTS track of the SD.

Why so skeptical, David?

Mike,
Because this is the 3rd delay now.

A compressed 754 DTS track won't stand a chance against a DTS Master lossless track.

Patton!

Patton had better look spectacular in HD.

Because that title has been delayed about three different times.

I'll take this delay because of what else we're getting That's a stellar father's day lineup.

I hope to be pleasantly surprise to see everyone of those titles come out in June.

Considering that it's already been released in Europe, I have no doubt that it's coming. I wish they didn't feel the need to wait until Father's Day though.

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

Maybe they'll take advantage of the delay to ensure all of the copious and quality extras on the MASTER AND COMMANDER: Collector's Edition SD are carried over. I won't be buying the Blu-ray unless they are...

The Blu-Ray fun never stops at the house of Fox!!

Now if I don't believe this excuse does that mean I'm overly pessimistic? Or is Fox just full of shit? Wasn't Ronin supposedly delayed for Fathers Day also? FWIW It's nice to see Patton on their new list of vaporware titles, just seeing these great titles in print is just as fun as actually physically having a BD and watching the film in High Def.

BTW Is Robin Williams in drag really that big a hit with other dads? I'm a dad and I'd rather put my nuts in a vice and give it a couple of turns than to sit through Mrs Doubtfire again. Swap Mrs D with The Great Escape or The Magnificent Seven and I'd be more excited........wait.......no I won't because these will either never get officially announced or they'll be delayed into 2009.

Thanks for what's sure to be a very special Fathers Day Fox. Job well done!

You want them to announce titles AND release them for people to purchase as well??! Why not ask for the world as well? Pfft.

I agree, Mrs. Doubtfire isn't exactly a movie you'd target fathers with... or most males. I bet Doubtfire gets released on schedule too.

Yea that pretty much sums up my feelings too. After so many delays I can't get my hopes up. As much as I love M&C and Patton my anticipation is severely tempered.

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

AAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. That's outa the way.

I ain't no dad. Damn their eyes, Fox better realize there's a whole buncha fangirls out here who have no interest in Patton or Mrs. Doubtfire (yuck, what an awful movie) but who are eager (VERY eager) to see handsome Brit and Aussie males in breeches and brass buttons.

I do have my SD edition but I can't wait to see this gorgeous film in hi def. The soundtrack will be a-ma-zing.

The studio marketed this film just as stupidly when it was in theatrical release, promoting it as Gladiator on the ocean, driving away the very arty crowd and women who would've liked it most.

However, I'm sure I will at least rent Battle of Britain and A Bridge Too Far. But I will OWN M&C the day it releases.

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

That's all well, but be honest: "Master & Commander", isn't that a fine title to give on father's day?

Let's summarize Fox's delays:

(1) first batch; Fox doesn't explain, but the fanboys know all about it: the DRM has been hacked. Fox is commended for their scrutiny.

(2) second batch; Fox tell us that the discs are fine, but might possibly not play on a few players in consumer's homes. Foqc is commended for their QC and the fact that they announce a new date so quickly.

(3) third delay; Fucks now doesn't explain anything, just announce the title for a new date, far far away, together with a few new titles. They are commended for the other titles they mention and the fact that they chose Father's Day for the release.

Maybe, just maybe, however, it has been the same reason all the time: (a) the announcements were rather "soft" to begin with and (b) BD production line problems.

As for (b): Sony certainly must free slots to accommodate the deals they made with Warner (Assassination by a Coward, anyone?). I'm not saying they also punish Fox for secretly talking to Microsoft and Toshiba in that same period, but reportedly it has cost Sony some additional money.

I do hope the competition isn't over yet, but if it is: expect lesser and lesser HDM titles to be announced and released in the near future.
They wouldn't feel a need anymore to expand the BD production capacity that much and that quickly. Of course the consumer loses once more in that case.

I hate, no loathe Mrs. Doubtfire, even before i myself was divorced. Terrible movie, hate it , hate it, with a passion. But yes, add me to the list of guys who would love The Great Escape or Magnificent Seven!

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

Wow.....some rather....er, painful comments regarding Mrs. Doubtfire. Why all the hate-on for this film? Personally, I like the film. I thought it was quite funny and will probably pick it up at some point.

As for Master & Commander, It would be great if FOX does take advantage of these delays and include all of the extras. The DVD special edition was excellent and it would be a damn shame if the BD is released without them.

Cees....thanks for starting off my day with some gut wrenching humor. Also, I'm sure there's a (c) in there somewhere that will reveal itself over time and will have something to do with your last paragraph.

Sad news...this is an instant purchase, Father's Day or not.

Re: Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World delayed... again...

I see that Bill Hunt mentions the delay, yet again, of Master & Commander in his column at the Digital Bits and treats the announcement rather casually, too casually, in my opinion while at the same time, he features some obscure software information from some magazine because it shows HD-DVD in a bad light.
You know, it wasn't to long ago that he would have BLASTED Fox for treated their customers like 2nd citizens. One of his favorite targets years ago was Disney for releasing horrible, substandard titles i.e. Medicine Man, Rocketeer, etc. But that was when his perspective was that of a consumer and, now that he is "sleeping with the enemy" and even a spokeperson for the same consortium, transgressions such as announcing than repeatedly delaying titles are quietly overlooked.
You know it's unfortunate that so much energy is spent by fanboys debasing the "other" format because we have so much in common, mostly, the love of movies. The real enemy, folks, is the industry i.e. studios and some manufacturers, as it has been all along!!!
