TARZAN Gordon Scott & Mike Henry - Page 3

Also, can someone repost the WB Archives customer service phone number so I don't have to go through ten million pages looking for it?    I'd rather call them than deal with a bunch of dumb canned responses via their e-mail contact page - which is the only contact option I can find on their site.  Go figure.  Thanks if anyone has that phone number!  :-)

Considering this is easily the most desired title out of this latest batch, and even features a major role by a young Sean Connery, it's truly appalling that Warners continues to have such low quality control on their overpriced DVD-R program.  OK, we'll pay the exorbitant price sometimes because we want a certain movie, but at least make the discs playable NOW.   People are questioning if these DVD-Rs will play in five years.   Ha!   What about having them play right now???   Unbelievable.

The only Archives I've been willing to purchase are the Tarzan titles.  Even with that, I've felt compelled to backup the data on both an external hard drive and another DVD because I just don't trust these discs.  Guess I'll have to take a closer look at GREATEST ADVENTURE as I haven't gotten around to backing these new ones up yet.

The customer service number is on your Warner Archive packing slip:  1-866-373-4389  Mon-Fri  8AM-10PM EST, Sat 8Am-6PM.

I just called about my bad TARZAN AND THE LOST SAFARI and they are shipping out a replacement which they said should reach me in 3-7 days. Sending back the bad disc is not required.

What really irks me about this archive deal is that they won't ship outside the US. I'm forced to deal with eBay resellers at a 100% mark-up or worse. Even Amazon sellers charge a premium. Not to mention the risk I'll have to take if replacements are necessary. *sigh* It's not easy being a foreigner.

Thanks!  I had looked on the packing slip, but didn't see the number even though it's right there for all to see.  Duh.

Called them and was impressed with their professional and friendly handling of the matter.  They'll be sending out a replacement of GREATEST ADVENTURE soon.  I'm not all that confident it will be any better unless they figure out what's causing the problems to begin with, but I'll report back once I receive it.

I am thankful that my good fortune with Warner Archive is still with me.  I watched TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE last night and did not have a problem with it.  It played great.

I totally enjoyed the film and had not seen it in a long time.  I did think that the colors were muted somewhat, but that was the use of Eastman Color film.

Yes, the people at WB Archive customer service are wonderful. The nice lady I had talked to on Friday took the time to research my order and told me if there is no last minute problem, my Gordon Scott discs will be shipped tomorrow and I can expect the package by the week end. I hope I will not have any problem with any of discs especially TARZAN's GREATEST ADVENTURE. If I do, I know the good people at C.S. will make it right.

No issues with GREATEST ADVENTURE is my Sony, as I reported in another thread.

They really must be having problem with TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE because my discs did not ship today as I was told it would. It has now been ten days since I had placed my order.  Did anyone wait longer than me before you got a shipping notice for your Gordon Scott Tarzan discs? For those of you who had ordered  other archive titles , what was the average waiting time from order to  shipment ?

I ordered on the November 3 and received the Monday November 9.  I did not have a problem with TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE and I have watched the complete DVD, so guess I am one of the few lucky ones this time.

Ordered my Gordon Scott TARZAN set on 11/9, shipped on 11/12 and arrived (by standard shipping) on 11/16 (I live in NJ). No visible defects on any of the discs. Have watched all 6 movies in their entirety and all played fine in my DVD player (Sony 9 years old).

I called Warner customer service this morning when I did not get a shipping notice yesterday and I was told  the discs was shipped last Friday. This is very odd because that was the exact day I was told I would get a shipping notice by yesterday (Monday) by email. As it had turned out, Warner does not bother to send shipping notice as they say they would.  I called my credit card company a little while ago and was told the charges for the discs went through on the 12th. The lady at customer service had told me this morning  to expect the package by today. I already checked my mail and the discs had still not arrived. Hopefully, I will have them  tomorrow.

If your order goes through ok then things work well. They get it out quick and it comes pretty quick.

If there is a glitch in the process you can be in for a problem.

Most of my orders have gone through fine. But the couple that didn't were horror stories. Double charging , communication problems with the warehouse, etc etc etc...

My orders have gone out in a day or two. And my orders have taken over two weeks to be shipped. Very inconsistent.
I ordered some of the Pre-sales Monday night and got an email saying they were shipped late yesterday.  Quickest turn-a-round for me yet.
I received my Gorgon Scott Tarzan DVDs  yesterday after all. It was delivered by another mailman about two hours later after my regular carrier made his rounds on my street.

Except for the fact that they shipped two copies of TARZAN's GREATEST ADVENTURE and no TARZAN'S HIDDEN JUNGLE, I was very pleased with the quality of the discs. Unlike some of you, my GREATEST ADVENTURE seem to be ok. The surface of the disc also look alright with no sign of abdomality. I watched TARZAN & THE TRAPPERS last night in it's entirety and spot checked the other discs and the image quality was fantastic and very film like on all of them. I am glad Warners had retained the original Paramount logo on TARZAN"S GREATEST ADVENTURE and TARZAN THE MAGNIFICENT and the MGM logo on TARZEN'S FIGHT FOR LIFE. MGM also distributed TARZAN AND THE LOST SAFARI but the MGM logo was not on it. Is the RKO radio tower on the world logo on the TARZAN's HIDDEN JUNGLE disc?

When I told customer service I was sent two copies of -THE GREATEST ADVENTURE and no -HIDDEN JUNGLE, they promised to send it to me within two days and they  did not say anything about what to do with the duplicate copy of GREATEST ADVENTURE. Does it mean I can keep it? After all the problem some people have been having with this title, it would be great to have it as a backup just in case the other copy became unplayable. I also found out why I did not receive shipping notice when they shipped my discs, they did not have my correct email address.

It's probably not worth the cost to have it shipped back or to deal with processing it. As you say, consider it a backup.

I haven't contacted them yet about my Greatest Adventure being bad because I wanted to watch them all straight through first. That way I will only have to contact them once with any issues. Unfortunately, I've only had time to watch one so far.
They have never made me send back bad discs so i assume it would be the same for wrong discs sent. I'm still waiting for my Tarzan's Greatest Adventure replacement. The kid i talked to last week never followed through. When i called Monday they didn't have a record of my call. So i was told they would send out a replacement as soon as possible. Nothing yet.
When I called customer service this morning and told them they had shipped two copies of GREATEST ADVENTURE and I  wanted HIDDEN JUNGLE instead of the duplicate, the nice lady immediately put the order through and and  gave me a  confirmation number and said the disc will be shipped within three days and I should receive it by later next week.

I posted a small review in the other thread, but just wanted to say here that I received my first Archive order in yesterday containing Greatest Adventure and Magnificent. Watched TGA last night. No problems as far as playback. The PQ  I thought was stellar considering the issues inherent to the source. I was expecting much worse. At least in regards to that title I was very satisfied with my purchase. After watching the movie again, I was almost disappointed I didn't order the full set- but I'm not as big a fan of the "Me Tarzan" style of the others. I'll probably  toss in Lost Safari at some point in a future order, but these two are the real jewels in the bunch.

It's amazing to me that in 50 years now, now one else has made another 'popcorn' Tarzan movie in this vein.

Received the replacement disc of GREATEST ADVENTURE and it appears to play fine this time.

My replacement disc for Greatest Adventure is due on Monday. I'm glad to hear that JeffMc's replacement disc was ok. Hopefully that means that they did fix the problem and mine will be ok too.

My original copy of GREATEST ADVENTURE as well as the duplicate Warners sent me instead of HIDDEN JUNGLE were fine and I had no problem with it when I watched it in it's entirety. My copy of LOST SAFARI however was defective with the same surface defect others reported with their GREATEST ADVENTURE discs and froze during the middle of the movie when I watched it. It played fine after I hadI skipped over the defective part. I will be getting my HIDDEN JUNGLE on Tuesday and hopefully my replacement copy of LOST SAFARI by Friday.

I watched TARZAN & THE TRAPPERS tonight and there were a few places it seemed to momentarily freeze. I don't know if anyone else experienced this or not. Personally, I'm not going to worry about it. IMO, this is the dud of the set. I understand this was meant to be used for a TV show idea and got compiled for a movie. All I can say is don't watch it after HIDDEN JUNGLE because you will recognize a lot of the jungle scenes. Basically, anything that has to do with traveling through the jungle is a repeat. They even stole scenes of tribesmen used in HIDDEN JUNGLE that really didn't even fit in right.

GREATEST ADVENTURE and MAGNIFICENT are obviously the best of the collection. I Liked HIDDEN JUNGLE and LOST SAFARI the next best. FIGHT FOR LIFE was okay, while TRAPPERS I'll probably never watch again.
My copy of Trappers played fine.I agree that it was by far the weakest movie of the bunch.

As for the freezing, i have had that issue on a couple of other random archive titles. I would try it in a few players and if it freezes in them, just call customer service and they will send you out a replacement with no hassle. At least that's how it's worked for me.

Do you think the Warner Archives will offer the Jock Mahoney and Mike Henry TARZAN movies in the future?

Buy the success of the sales of the Gordon Scott and the Lex Baxter titles, I would bet we would see another group by February.  But there is nothing official.
With the Gordon Scott films now out (Yaaaay!), all that remains for me are the two Jock Mahoney entries, TARZAN GOES TO INDIA (1962) and TARZAN'S THREE CHALLENGES (1963), and the first Mike Henry film, TARZAN AND THE VALLEY OF GOLD (1966, a.k.a. "Tarzan as James Bond"). Henry's subsequent two flicks, TARZAN AND THE GREAT RIVER (1967) and TARZAN AND THE JUNGLE BOY (1968), are lackluster efforts I can easily do without.

Regardless, bring 'em on soon, Warner!

Just noticed that at the Warner Brothers website, they are offering the 3 Mike Henry TARZAN films and 2 Jock Mahoney TARZAN films for sale, $50 bucks for all 5 DVDs, says they will ship in 7 days. I'm going to order them now, will post again when I receive them.

Just checked the Warner Archives website - If you want only 3 out of the 5 movies, you can get them for $40, free shipping. Or all 5 for $50, free shipping. Looks like all 5 Tarzan movies are widescreen letterbox, the longer versions (not the ones cut up for TV). Mine are expected to arrive tomorrow, Warner Archives has excellent shipping/tracking system. Will post again regarding DVD quality after I view movies.
