I live on the top floor in my apartment complex and would like to dampen the vibrations and noise from my subwoofer so I can play it fairly loud without bothering the neighbors below me. Can anyone recommend materials to help with the subwoofer and surrounds and also material that I could place on a door?

i had wanted to so similar things. unless you want to or are willing to spend loads and have the aility to do significant work to your apt/ room, you can't play it loud and have the neighbor not hear/ feel the bass.there are generally 2 kinds of products, ones that absorb sound and ones that block it. the absorbing ones, like bass traps are more about acoustically deadening a space than stopping sound from leaving it. what you need is something that will block sound and in order for it to work, it has to be applied to/ cover large areas of floor, ceiling and/ or wall. the stuff that works best is, of course, not cheap. you'd be looking at either heavy, thick vinyl type sound insulation intended for being built into/ under walls, ceilings and floors or getting "soundproof" type drywall products which can either replace or go on top of existing walls. there are doors made with sound limiting ratings as well.

Max is correct -- there's really nothing you can realistically do in an apartment to sound proof it. Materials to absorb the sound *may* allow you to play at a lower volume without losing anything, but still will not isolate you from neighboring apartments.Something you might try -- especially if you're dealing with downstairs neighbors -- is the Auralex Gramma which isolates the sub from the floor, thus reducing the vibrations in the floor. Certainly not soundproofing, but your downstairs neighbors would probably appreciate it.
