so the last couple of months have shown a bunch or really good sales on hdm.
i know a lot of people don't make it over to bargains and miss out on the sales.

another forum like HTF has a section for bargains in their hd talk section.
should we?

I've posted HD deals in the Bargains section...but have also found myself posting links to those threads over in HD software.

BUT why shouldn't HD media buyers just stop by Bargains and Deals like SD media buyers?

thats a good point.

i asked because i'm sure i've noticed some who have not looked there when hdm deals have turned up.

btw the title of this has a typo. it should say
"...post in HD software or in bargains section?"

also many of these only last a few days so the hd people might not get a chance or remember to check bargains for these quickie sales.

Re: HDM bargains and sales post in ht software or in bargains section?

Well, I've certainly noticed a number of Bargain-type threads starting up and running-their-course in the HD Software section lately...wondering why they weren't posted in Bargains & Deals.

I've been worried I've been going to miss some of those "quickie" deals if I didn't check over there, too!

That's why I've been "cross posting/referencing" some of my threads in Bargains over in the HD Software section...to kind of maximize the exposure. But every time I did that, I asked myself the question, "why aren't the HD media folks just posting in Bargains & Deals like the SD media customers?

We've allowed bargain posts in the HD Software and when appropriate, the HD hardware areas, since the deals can be time-sensitive, not everyone is going to keep refreshing the Bargains/Deals area all day long, but do spend time in the HD area due to disc reviews and hardware discussion, as well as the HDM landscape developments (Warner going blu, etc.). I think that's the best compromise as a separate HDM area wouldn't see that much activity and it was require HDM buyer yet another area to patrol.

i wasnt suggesting an new area for hdm bargains, just a singular thread or such in the hd software area.

Honestly, the amazon BD & HD-DVD deals seem to come and go too quickly. It almost makes it impossible to keep up with them.

Re: HDM bargains and sales post in HD software or in bargains section?

The only reason why we allow HDM bargain threads in this area is because most of them are time limited with sometimes only a 24 hour window. Furthermore, since HDM is so expensive, it serves the membership better that such bargains are posted immediately in an area that HD player owners frequent more often than the bargain area.

Also, any HD bargain posted in HD area, but not the bargain area, I will generate another thread in the bargains area to showcase that HD bargain. If the reverse happens in the bargain area and not the HD area, I'll note that HD bargain in the HD bargain thread.

I see no reason for the consolidated HD bargain thread to be a sticky as long as we keep the thread near the top of the page which the administrators can do without making it a sticky thread. For the most part, we try to avoid having too many sticky threads at the top of the page.

Any further discussion about our policy should be done off-line because I see no reason why this thread should be sidetracked.

The above post came from THIS THREAD.

I hope Robert doesn't mind that I quote his post in this thread rather than take it off-line.

Again, the logic of the situation seems to escape me. If people are really interested in HD media bargains, why wouldn't they just look in "Bargains & Deals?" That's what people looking for SD media bargains have to do.

It has always been my impression that the administrators of the forum made a great effort to keep the content-within well-compartmentalized for the sake of clarity. Current policy seems to generate the simple confusion of having deals posted willy-nilly and not in the designated place for "one stop shopping."

**EDIT: Our posts crossed as I was composing mine as Robert was posting his.

Re: HDM bargains and sales post in HD software or in bargains section?

Mike,
I'm sorry my logic escapes you, but not everyone can spend their limited internet time visiting every area of the forum on a daily basis which is why we're making this exception in this case. If I wasn't an administrator, I doubt I would read the bargain thread other than Sunday and Tuesday of the week. We're doing this to serve our membership and allow them to take any advantages they can in regard to HD bargains. When HD achieves enough market penetration in which the majority of our members are buying into it then all bargains will only be posted in the bargain area because by then pricing will calm down and daily bargains will relax some.
