New receivers

I am currently looking to purchase a new surround receiver. What do you think would be the best receiver around the $500 range? It seems not to many people like the Sony ones, but they seem to be one of the few with 3 HDMI inputs. I would prefer the 3 HDMI inputs. The only other receivers that I see with 3 are over $1000. Any ideas?

Re: New receivers

If you can stand just a little more money, you can get the Onkyo TX-SR705, from Amazon.com, for $599.90. It has three HDMI inputs, and can process the new HD audio formats. If you're going to get a Blu ray, ps3, or HD DVD player, this one will handle them pretty well. See it here:
Amazon.com: Onkyo TX-SR705 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black): Audio & Video
Good luck!

Re: New receivers

How does Onyko compare to Denon?

Re: New receivers

They are both very good brands of equipment. I have more personal experience with Denon. I think to get the same features and ability from a Denon, it's going to cost a good bit more. The worst thing about a Denon, is their remote. If you decide to go with a Denon, I'd immediately buy a Harmony remote, or one that's similar.

I just looked and it said $660. But it was $599 last night. Vanns.com had the 805 on pre-order for $699 shipped last night but it's up to $749 today. But that's $200-250 more than the OP wanted to spend. But $699 for the 805 is a heck-uv-a-deal, if you can stand the heat!

Re: New receivers

While you're correct that Sony gets no love (mostly hate) here, do the "due diligence" for yourself. Take a serious look at the STR-DG910 and the STR-DG1100.
