Photography Area - Move it or lose it

Thread Starter
Since this forum got moved under computers (where it doesn't belong IMO), I never visit it anymore. From the lack of posts, it appears that I am not alone.

Admins: How bout we promote Photography back to its top-level status, or remove it completely?

Re: Move it or lose it

I vote for move it, not lose it, especially since I'm back being more active on HTF again (what w/ recently jumping into the BD market).

Anyway, yeah, traffic in this section has definitely dwindled to zilch since the forum downgrade. Would be nice to chat occasionally about photography over here, instead of needing to head over to dpreview.com, etc.

Re: Move it or lose it

I agree. I do not want to see this forum die, but there are rarely any threads here since it was demoted to a sub-forum. I would love to see it promoted back to full forum status.

Re: Photography Area - Move it or lose it

(Burrying this thread in a dwindling area isn't very effective.
I moved it to the Forum Feedback area, where it belongs.)

Personally, I would like to keep the Photography Area on our forum.

And, IMO, "photography" isn't a subset of "Computers and HTPC": it's a HT "diversion" in its own right, using a camera, among many other gadgets, and not a PC. Of course it's quite possible to use a PC later to process the images, but that's not the basic essence of photography.

So - I think a discussion where to place the area would be quite valid. One proper place for this subforum could be at its own place in the "Other Diversions" area, next to "Computers and HTPC", "Video Gaming" and "Mobile Entertainment".

That is where the forum used to reside, Cees, and I preferred that setup over the current one. It was easier to see if there was activity in the forum, and generated more participation. Under the current setup, the forum gets lost under the activity in the PC forums.

It's too bad, because there are quite a few knowledgeable photographers here at HTF -- both professional and amateur.

I noticed the Photography forum is back to full forum status this morning. Thank you, Ron and Parker, for listening and acting so quickly.

Not a problem. It's what you guys wanted and we saw
no problem with moving it back.
