Strata Mini's & ?center - or SVS

I am seriously considering popping for the great deal on the Stata Minis but I have a concern that the center channel timbre matching could be an issue.

Do any of you have these minis and use a center channel with good matching results? I have been looking online and find that there is really no "clear" match for these. I have seen some rather astounding reviews though.

My usage is about 70% HT. Another question is that the lowest frequency advertised is nowhere near the 15-20 hz I would gain by going with the SVS deal on their plus 2.

I am waffling shamelessly on the fence at the moment.

My choice is either the SVS sub or the mini's. I can not get both at the moment. BTW I have some rather low end speakers at the moment. JBL voice & stage venue series and they are "ok" but I want an upgrade.

So I will list my questions.

1) Do the Strata Mini's have a center channel that matches timbre, or is there another brand that comes close?(deal now at $1799 shipping incl)
2) Would the dual 8" powered subs be adequate in a relatively small theater room? 10' x 15' with opening on one end(partial) and on one wall(30"x7') with 9' cielings.
3) Will I just be more satisfied at the moment to go with a very good sub, ie the great deal on the SVS plus 2 ($1099 + shipping)and upgrade the other speakers later?

Yes I understand this is almost completely subjective but I also apprieciate the candor and knowledge you guys banter around.

The PB Plus/2 is severe overkill in a 10x15 HT, but then again there are those who say there is no such thing as overkill with a sub. You just wouldn't be using its full capabilities now, but you would also have significant room for growth in the future. That sub will energize a room with probably 5-10x the volume of what you have now. I would probably go ahead and jump on the sub, particularly if you like getting a wood veneer one.

Thanks John, first of all - this is a temporary housing situation. I have moved to S. Fl. and I am renting now but soon to buy, I hope. I would rather have a little overkill. Secondly - I love bass and always seem to want more during movies that exude and create testosterone. I am sure there is some scientific study that links killer bass with the creation of testosterone ;-)) Last but not least, I hope those deals are there mid-Feb when I will have the funds to take advantage, the nicer(veneered) PB/plus 2's are already sold out, bummer.

Does anyone have experience ith the Starta Mini's here? Especially with trying to match a center channel?

Hope you don't mind me answering here... lots of customers use the Reference 100 as a center with the Mini's. Additionally you can trade it in down the road for an official Strata Center once it is available.

Thanks,

Do you have an idea of when the center channel will be available? I just don't see how the cone speakers could possibly be timbre matched to the Mini's. I guess the proof would be in the listening though.

The Strata Mini's are awesome speaker, and the Reference 100 works great with them. I highly recommend the Strata Mini's.

I also own a SVS PB12-Plus/2 and will tell you that sub also is awesome.

I say purchase both.

Re: Strata Mini's & ?center - or SVS

I would suggest the same as John. Get the PB12-Plus/2 while it is on sale and then get the Mini's with the new center after you have had a chance to listen to the system yourself.

Re: Strata Mini's & ?center - or SVS

Oh, I would absolutely love to get the sub and the Minis but unfortunately I must do some other things with this bonus as well. It really stinks to be responsible sometimes!!!

I could only imagine that an SVS PB12-Plus/2 with the minis and that this would envelope you in a such rich and deep sound stage for movies and music that it would be wonderful. The mid bass region will most likely send the listener into and out of fribillation.

I have had the opportunity to listen to some "higher end" systems that were very nicely reproducing bass without the boomyness, it is amazing how you can actually listen at a much lower level and yet experience more of the LFE and all other ranges of the sound spectrum at the lower Db level with an astounding clarity with the better equipment. The sound stage is actually created with a depth that could only be experienced and not appreciated by words alone. It is astonishing how some systems can actually recreate the sounds and fool your senses into thinking they come from a specific place in the room and the instruments are separated in their presentation. I have not studied the physics behind this type of reproduction but I am looking forward to enjoying this on a regular basis with great anticipation.
