Which Channals Broadcast in HD

Is there any list of all the national channels that broadcast in HD ?

I am curious to know if my cable provider(Verizon Fios) carries everything
available or not.

Also is there any list or time frame for stations not currently broadcasting in HD to start ? I would love to see Turner Classic Movies in HD.

Thanks

You can go to TV Guide, TV Listings, Online Videos, Entertainment News and Celebrity News | TVGuide.com and customize TV listings for your town and cable service. This customized listing will show which channels are in HD. There are probably other sites where you can do the same thing.

Re: Which Channals Broadcast in HD

Ain't going to work. Just because a channel broadcasts in HD doesn't mean that anyone can get it over their CATV.

Your best bet is to look at your last cable bill, go to their online site and look there first.

Depending on where you are, the cable companies are converting everything over to digital, but they do have until the year 2012 to do that.

It also depends on if you are receiving analog cable or if you have a digital cable box. When I got my new TV a few months ago (with analong service) it found about 250 digital stations, but most of them were scrambled. I did however, get the local NBC station. I get that on channel 83.1.

Last month they added Fox, and tomorrow they are going to add CBS. What I am not getting is "The CW". That station doesn't have an analog OTA feed here, and is broadcast in digital only. Hopefully, my cable service wil convert that and ABC shortly.

This thread is a good place to start. I'm not sure if it's entirely inclusive/accurate, but when I read through it a few weeks ago it seemed pretty accurate (based on what I already knew).

Thanks that thread was very helpful. Seems there are still many HD channels not carried by Verizon Fios in my area They recently added A&E HD. Hopefully more will follow. We get HBO , Showtime etc. I would like it if they added the other HBO and Showtime channels such as HBO Signature.

Still would love Turner Classic Movies to be in HD.

Re: Which Channals Broadcast in HD

In my area Comcast added about 8 or 9 new HD channels including the History Channel and Animal Planet with no fanfare at all - for one night! Then they all vanished again. Apparently somebody jumped the gun or they were having technical problems with some of them. (The History Channel HD kept breaking up when I was trying to watch it.) They did add The CW a few weeks ago - again with no advance notice and no advertising since. I just showed up one night. (Because I use the "favorite channels" option to skip many channels I don't watch, I sometimes don't know about line up changes until I look at the full program guide - which I don't do all that often.)

My nephew is also a Comcast subscriber and he told me that when he had a tech out to fix a problem before Christmas the guy told him they would be adding up to 30 HD channels by year's end, in batches of about 10 each in the January/February, May/June and October/November timeframes. (Which would seem to coincide with the major network "sweeps" periods, which may or may not mean anything.)

Regards,

Joe
