Component Video - Bypass Receiver?

Is there any problem with hooking svideo/component video from a dvd player directly into the svideo/component input on a tv and bypassing the surround receiver?
I'm thinking there could be a lag in the sound since the audio/video signals are going in different places and would be processed at different times. Or maybe the process is so fast and it wouldn't make a notable difference anyway?
Thanks.

You might have a slight lipsync issue, but I've done so in the past without a sync problem affecting my viewing pleasure.

Re: Component Video - Bypass Receiver?

Thanks for the reply.
I've noticed that some movies, in certain parts, have a lip sync problem anyway, even when I'm running the composite video through the receiver. Could be from poor calibration on my part I suppose.
The receiver I have is an Onkyo 5.1 and it only has composite connections for video. I didn't think/know enough to realize that I might want something more in the future.
I pretty much just made sure it had separate audio inputs for each channel so I could use it with my sound card and hook it into my mixer for recording(way cheaper alternative than buying separate amps) and that it had an optical connection for my DVD player. Didn't really think about the video aspect of the receiver. Oh well.

Or it could be a problem with the discs or with the movie itself. (Some ADR work can be really lousy.) The problem isn't always in the equipment. I have one of my DVD players connected through my Onkyo receiver with digital coax and component to the TV, and also have it connected directly to the TV via HDMI. (Really just to see if either connection looked clearly better than the other - they didn't.) I've never had a sync problem watching the video through the HDMI and listening to the sound through the receiver.

Re: Component Video - Bypass Receiver?

Usually the lag is in the picture. Today's best video processing of 480i and 1080i sources (includes regular DVD's) introduces a delay of about a twentieth of a second.

A special processor for sound such as a surround sound decoder may have a delay knob to match the picture with.
