Per Home Media Magazine. New Line news has already been reported, but HBO's confirmation is new.

And HBO Video president Henry McGee says HBO, too, is “following the same policy as Warner Home Video.”

It's not a shocker by any means, that's for sure. I don't think HBO even has any upcoming releases announced.

Re: HBO makes it official, too: Blu-ray only

Since Warner, New Line, and HBO are going Blu-ray, I take it the BBC titles that Warner distributes will too?

Edit: I forgot about Planet Earth, which was released on SD, HD-DVD as well as Blu-ray, so they probably will release future titles on Blu-ray.

MAYBE when HBO releases The Sopranos series set at the end of the year, there will be a Blu Ray release of it too. I shudder to think of the price though.

Isn't HBO owned by Time/Warner? I guess them going Bluray is a given.

Are there any more Time Warner companies to come out of the woodwork with their announcements? Just wondering.

Based on the full screen DVD transfer--which may in fact be its OAR so don't take this as a complaint of the aspect ratio, but rather of the picture quality--I'm not holding out much hope for a Gia uncut Blu Ray...though I'd shell out for one

I'm just glad we'll be able to get Band of Brothers that will actually be able to maximize the 50 GB potential rather than port over a 30 GB HD-DVD encode of it, as it would have been.

Re: HBO makes it official, too: Blu-ray only

Seeing as Band of Brothers was episodic television running around an hour an installment, there would be absolutely no quality concerns due to space limitations. The only concern would be a few extra discs.

But, hey, just saying those numbers seems to make some people feel better, so who am I to judge?

Re: HBO makes it official, too: Blu-ray only

The BBC will make their own decision about whether or not they change their neutral stance (although it would surprise me if they don't go Blu).

If HBO's official announcement brings us one day closer to them releasing Rome or Deadwood on Blu-ray, then it's been worthwhile!
