My 2007 Project: Basement Home Theater & Gym

Just thought I'd add my semi-completed basement home theater to the forum. You can take a look at my site here:

Basement Matinee

This is my first home theater. It isn't very big (only about 12' x 16') nor do I have the most technologically-advanced equipment. But I tried to maintain a reasonable budget without sacrificing performance. Plus, I did nearly all of the work myself and am proud of the results.

I want to thank everyone on the forum too...I got a lot of ideas and solutions from this site. I'm not an avid poster, but I am an avid reader and I found it extremely helpful. One of the reasons for creating my website was to hopefully help others in my situation - I tried to be detailed in my description of the construction in hopes that a would-be DIY-er can get some value from it.

The site/blog isn't fully completed - I want to update a few parts yet and create a list of "things I would've done differently". But feel free to let me know what you think!

Awesome job Schalkt! I love the built in media/ and audio/video cases. Are you able to get to the back side of the audio/video case? I like the color choices and how you come down the stairs and the first thing you see when you enter the room is that big screen. Thanks for all the detailed pics and information. I have a basement to finish in the future. Thanks for all the pics/comments of your experiences.

Jon_B:

I can get behind the cases. There's about 2'-3' of space behind that wall. I have to move the sectional couch every time I want to get back there, but it's possible. Definitely makes some of the wiring a lot easier.
I would've liked to put a back door or something on my AV case since I can access that area (would make wiring between components a lot easier), but space (and a drain pipe) didn't allow it.

Good luck with your basement!

I was definitely thinking of putting a door to access the area behind media case(when I do mine).

Thanks again for sharing.
