P.S. I Love You

My wife and I saw this after "Atonement". It stars Hillary Swank, Gerard Butler, Lisa Kudrow, Gina Gershon, Harry Connick Jr. and Kathy Bates. Although most critics really blast this movie we liked it quite a bit. Enough to recommend it to friends anyway.

It was hard to get past Hillary as "The Million Dollar Baby" but I think she did a fine job for her role. This is no Oscar winner by any means but it was fun and sad and heart felt. Just an all around nice film. I usually don't go to these types of movies but I owed it to my wife and I'm glad I went.

Re: P.S. I Love You

Okay, I did see this film, but never got the gumption to toss my 2 cents in unless someone else did.

Overall, the film was good, not great, but not alarmingly predictable, but is a bit too long, and its denouement in the last act kind of runs on forever. The supporting cast is good, and adequate.

The general plot is boy (Gerry) meets girl (Holly), boy marries girl, boy dies prematurely but not suddenly, girls gets letters from dead boy helping her get over her grief and find her way to move on and get back to the business of living. This goes on for about a year, and it felt like a year watching it unfold, and that wasn't a good thing for a cinematic viewing experience. The character development for Holly (played by Hilary Swank), the young widow, is good, but it's not as engaging as it could have been. I wanted to like this film more, but it just undershoots a bit in spite of a good cast.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.
