Will Catalog releases be accelerated or hindered?

For HD-DVD, I Definately see this as a hindering blow.

The adoption rate is going to come to a hault. I would assume that they may even be cancelling titles that weren't even announced yet.

I'm just bummed because this means that big catalogs from Paramount and Universal are definately farther off.

For Blu-Ray, I HOPE it accerlates things.

To coax people to take the step, they have to give them more reasons, and big big titles. People aren't always going to want to upgrade the regular collection, but yes, LOTR would be a huge release. I think it would definately increase ALOT of buzz.

Im still not sure how long it will be untill I go Blu. I know it's sort of inevitable, but it's sort of fiscally irresponsible for me. LOTR being released would get me to come over peacefully for sure.

Unless David wants to invite me over, I donno, just throwing it out there.

And wow, where was my head? Spelling acclerated two different ways............I donno. (i'm shaking my head, embarrassing)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say neither. Acceleration of catalogue titles will only happen whne BD adoption reaches a certain saturation.

Re: Will Catalog releases be excerlerated or hindered?

I have been a long time HD DVD supporter, but always said to myself, if BR ever puts out the Bond films, Lawrence of Arabia, etc., I will be very tempted to get a player. I did pick up a Panasonic BD30 after the Warner announcement, but will probably just rent titles that aren't on HD DVD for now. No dopey Alien vs. Predator films, et al, are going to get me to buy Blu-ray discs. These type films may show off hi-def, but geeze, how many can you really watch? Bring on the good stuff: remastered classic catalog titles. Warner, Fox, Columbia (Sony), and Disney have lots of them. Paramount and Universal too (I still have my XA2).

Yes, but not nearly as embarrassing as once again mis-spelling "accelerated" in your correction...
