Cashmere Mafia season 1 thread

The lady version of "Big Shots" mixed with a dash of "Sex and the City" shows up tonight after Desperate Housewives on ABC at 10 p.m., and then it settles in its regular timeslot on Wednesday at 10 p.m. There were only 7 episodes filmed before the WGA strike interrupted filming of other episodes. The cast includes Lucy Liu, Miranda Otto, Bonnie Sommerville, and Francis O'Connor.

Re: Cashmere Mafia - pilot episode 1/6/08

I sort of zoned out after about 20 minutes into the pilot episode. Not a good sign when that happens, and this episode just didn't quite endear me to any of these characters.

I really enjoyed it. I especially loved Lucy Liu. I thought the chemistry between the women is something I haven't seen since "Sex and the City" went off the air.

I only caught half of the episode, but from what I've seen so far, it's kind of dull.

It's no Sex and the City that is for sure but it held my interst. Lots or pretty Men and Woman to look at with nice wardrobes.

Re: Cashmere Mafia - pilot episode 1/6/08

I saw about 3 minutes of banter between Lucy Liu and some guy and then fell asleep (due to general tiredness). My wife said at that point (she'd been watching about half of it I think) that it was a cross between Desperate Housewives and Sex And The City. I didn't ask her yet whether she liked it though (she likes those other two).

I found almost every line of dialogue annoying in some way.

It's like someone took a Bizarro World Grapevine and crossed it with a Bizarro World Ugly Betty.

We were very pleasantly surprised! The second half of the episode was a lot better than the first and the show shows a lot of promise. I was really surprised at the characters I was interested in: I thought it would be Miranda Otto's character and Lucy Liu's character -- nope! It was the other two, by far. Strange how that goes.

Miranda Otto

Thank you! I was wondering what her name was.

She was in The Lord of the Rings.

What is it with the Brits, Aussies, and New Zealanders taking over our TV screens?

Our networks pay better than theirs.

And they're better actors?

eta: My last name isn't "Howell."

Re: Cashmere Mafia - pilot episode 1/6/08

Better actors? No, I don't think so. I think they're just as good, and so a percentage of the actors in our shows will include them, probably somewhere less than proportional to the populations we're talking about.

Watching the 2nd episode, I thought it was worse than the 1st one. Too bad, because I like the cast.

Strange. I feel it was a better episode -- much more consistent throughout, while the first episode was heavily second-half-loaded.

Re: Cashmere Mafia season 1 thread

I find Bonnie Sommerville's stammering somewhat endearing, though I don't find Lourdes Benedictos all that yummy.
