Panasonic Dmp-Bd30k

I've been scoping HD DVD players and would like members of this forums opinion on the Panasonic DMP-BD30K Bluray player. CNet gave it a rating of 7.4 out of 10 (very good) and customer reviews gave it 8.9 out of 10 (excellent). If anyone is familiar with this player or has an opinion on better players, I would appreciate any info you have to offer.

I own the Panny BD30 and I believe it to be the finest Blu-ray player released to-date. However, the Panny BD30 does NOT internally decode the advanced audio codecs. To listen to those advanced audio codecs with the BD30, you must bitstream them out to a newer AVR that can internally decode them (such as the Pioneer VSX-94TXH).

It should also be noted that the Panny BD30 is the ONLY Blu-ray player to-date that can output DTS HD Master Audio (via Bitstream).

It's a great player, but as stated you need one of the newer receivers to take advantage of advanced audio codecs.

Since I've been sitting on the sidelines waiting out the format war, I haven't kept up with a lot of the discussion on these new features. So I'll apologize in advance if this is a dumb and/or already answered question:

Assuming there is a player that does internally decode the advanced audio codecs (whatever that means), how will this be transmitted to the receiver? Via the digital output? Analog outputs? Or is an HDMI port required?

My current receiver has 5 analog inputs, which I use for SACD. However, it has no HDMI port.

What is the video output thru component? 1080i?

The Sharp BD-HP20U will internally decode Dolby True HD and MPCM and pass as PCM through either HDMI or analog 5.1. I've had one since November and it's a fine machine; no problems with any BD discs that I've played. It's not Profile 1.1, so if you want PIP and the other 1.1 features (I'm not interested in them myself), then your only choices for the time being are the Panny or PS3.

The BD30 is a great machine. I have one myself. However I think I'm going to take it back and wait for the BD50, which is Profile 2 and decodes all of the hi-res audio formats.

Thanks for the info. I need to educate myself on these Profiles before I buy a player. It sounds like I'll need to choose between the new codecs and SACD, unless SONY puts out a machine that outputs both thru the same set of analog outputs.
