American Idol - Season 7 - Page 40

Re: American Idol - Season 7

In my defense I live in the Salt Lake City area and have had to listen to all this "David A. is God" stuff, constantly, on every news channel, for weeks now.

Guess it has exposed some nerve endings.

Wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so creepy.

Did Randy actually go a whole hour without saying "pitchy"?

DialIdol.com is showing Cook as the winner...

Re: American Idol - Season 7

I was really rooting for David C. last night, but it didn't appear as though he brought his "A game" for whatever reason.

His best performance of the night was his first one; after that he just appeared to go through the motions. I still think if the Cook of mid-season had shown up he would have blown David A. away. (Heck, even the Cook of "Lloyd Weber Night" would have been welcomed.)

I wonder if he "punted" his last two performances on purpose??

Perhaps I'm reading too much into this, but it smacked of a last minute desperation move by DC who must have felt he was way behind after the first two rounds and it didn't sit well with me.

I think you're reading too much into it. It's certainly a valid reason to not choose to perform a song again. The first time I watched Idol was when Katharine McPhee performed Over the Rainbow and then performed it again the next week. I thought it was horribly desperate, not knowing that picking your personal best was a common thing to do. I still prefer something new, particularly in that case where it was heard the week before.

Seconded. (Actually, I don't mind Dancing With The Stars because ballroom dance is kinda fun to watch and the celebrities on the show are entertaining, but the stuff on the other dance shows does NOTHING for me.)

I liked the boxing intro, but I didn't realize they stretched it out through the whole show 'cause I was flipping back and forth with the Celtics-Pistons game. Sounds like it was a bit much.

Although I like Cook better in general, based on the songs I heard yesterday (all but The World I Know and the first half of Imagine), I would say that Archie had a better night.

Ahh, but these aren't "people". They're finely tuned athletes and gifted artists. Plus, a lot of them are totally hot. Give hotness a chance.

Huh? Methinks you've never watched SYTYCD, because it's all pairs dancing and mostly ballroom at that. Also, it 10,000% better dancing than that has-been/never-been show. Both the "Dancing" and "Stars" parts of the title lack truth in advertising.

The finale features a song chosen from the amateur songwriter's competition eh? Some interesting reading here --

I didn't know of this info...

Actually, I was wondering if there wasn't some reverse psychology at work. The praise seemed so lop-sided compared to the performances that I wonder if the judges weren't purposely trying to get Cook's fans riled up and motiviated to hit the phones hard.

No wonder we have kids shooting up schools when shy, socially awkward teenagers are being labeled as "creepy"...or worse.

Seriously. He's a kid. He'll get the hang of it...hopefully.

He used, "dude you can sing the phonebook" multiple times instead.

I think that both performers were pretty much on key all night, negating the opportunity to use "pitchy".

Wonder how bad tonight will be. I really enjoyed the Season Finale with daughtry and that crew, forget which season that was.

I generally don't agree with a single thing Hanson says (in a friendly sort of way!), but he's pretty spot on here (except for the ballroom part - I wouldn't say it's mostly ballroom, but rather mostly contemporary...). So You Think You Can Dance is easily the best dance show on TV. When my g/f was studying dance at University, she would often comment how the other dancers at school would watch Dancing with the Stars as some sort of comedy show

Also, Cat Deeley is hot.

Alright. I'll give it one recording on the ol' DVR, but I'd be surprised if it's for me. I'm more the American Gladiators type.

Let's just put it this way. I'm waiting at least an hour in to start watching so I can make judicious use of the FF button.

Re: American Idol - Season 7

I would rather watch paint dry than to watch people dance.

Dancing has never made sense to me. Moving your body around in time with a beat serves no purpose except maybe to get a mate.

How would you explain dancing to a visitor to our planet? Explain why wiggling around is entertainment? Why would I want to watch people having convulsions in time to music?

I have never gotten it, never will. I certainly don't understand people watching on tv.

Sorry, I know we're are getting off topic, but I just can't comprehend how these dancing shows are doings so well in the ratings.

Scott-S:

I direct you to the movie "Footloose" and Wren's (Kevin Bacon) speech to the town elders about why dancing is important!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread topic.....

Re: American Idol - Season 7

I'll say. Hopefully he does better than most. I think he's far more relevent than 'Archie', who seems to be out of his element in anything other than sappy ballads and love songs.

I think the best bits were Cook w/ZZ Top, and Brooke with Graham Nash. Probably moments of a lifetime for both. But how much more must we endure Jack Black?

"I am your brother...!!"

Re: American Idol - Season 7

When they said 12 million vote difference I figured it was Archie for sure. But I'm glad it was Cook.

And damn, George Michael does NOT look 44. He looked 74! Yikes. Sounded great, though.

Re: American Idol - Season 7

I am very shocked myself to see that Cook won. Happy, but shocked! I actually quite enjoyed the two David's harmonizing on the very first song. It's a song I would purchase on Itunes if they put it on there.

I hate the we have a movie/album to promote crap. Although I adore George Michael, his performance was not very strong as I know he can do.

I also enjoyed Brook White's and Graham Nash's performance, again, a song I would download.

Was it just me or did Paula's boobs seem like they were trying to escape her dress all night? and what the H was with all the shiny material on the girls dresses. Horrible! As someone who sews and knows fabrics very well, those dresses (particularly Carly's, Mickela's and Syesha's) were horrible and not flattering at all.

Randy's suit was very obnoxious as well.

As for the second runner up... I think poppachuleta is going to be sticking him back on probation for screwing this up? LOL!

A candidate for Peter Griffin's "Side Boob" cable show...

Cook way-y-y outsang 'Archie' on Hero.

Still carrying on the tradition of cheesy 'Idol' single, though...

Re: American Idol - Season 7

What was this, Attack of the 80's? George Michael, Donna Summer, ZZ Top, Bryan Adams...no wonder they're losing the young audience.

Congrats to Mr. Cook. He began to grow on me a bit as the season came to an end though I was still hoping for an Archie victory.

I look forward to new music from both of the Davids.

Ah man! Words cannot measure the level of fury I would have experienced if mine did that! I checked mine and it cut off 2 seconds after Seacrest said "...Cook!"

Re: American Idol - Season 7

The worst part is having to sit through all the crap. Even if most of it is going by in FF. So, did anything happen after the word "Cook?" Did he sing the winning song, or was it just a confetti fest?

Enjoyed ZZ Top, and I thought Brooke did great on her part of the Donna Summer song. Maybe pigeonholing herself as folk/country/singer-songwriter was a mistake.

I'll resist rubbing it in since I disliked Archuleta, but it's still a nice victory for Cook. And, I voted for about twenty minutes, so I did my part.
